Traxide have a good dual battery wiring system that is supposed to be very good with great instructions.
traxide I am pretty sure is Drivesafe on this forum.
There is a detailed instruction with great photos on hear some where.
I am going to get one of his systems which also include all the necessary wiring & plugs.
Apparently the Ultima Yellow Top is the battery to get.

Sniegy is also a guru regarding the Traxide systems

My 09 does not have a cupholder in the position you described.

I was going to contact drivesafe about the traxide system, but was more interested in what options people did about 12v sockets as there seems to be plenty in the car, but having 2 in the rear proberly isnt such a bad idea.especially 1 from each battery

I am going to check if my AGM battery that I took from my D2 fits as they are #1 in my view after our Canning trip last year..if not will look at other options, but the space for the 2nd battery seems pretty big..

That cup holder is HSE

The cupholder wasn't fitted as standard on Aus spec vehicles (below HSE) but you can buy it and fit it yourself if you want. Part number FBD500140PVJ. Costs about 35 pounds from a UK parts dealer.

I bought and installed the Traxide Duel battery kit just last week. Tim, who sells the kits provides a very comprehensive set of instructions(with pictures) on how to do everything - including which interior panels need to come off to run the cabling. He's a D3 owner, so he sells a D3 specific kit.

In short the cable runs from the engine bay, through the grommet in the firewall (drivers side), behind the right kick panel, under the door sill panel (one panel covers the front and rear sill.

From there you can push the cable under the plastic on the right side of the cargo area, then pull it out of the jack compartment.

The kit came with 2 outlets, so I installed them side-by-side, and left the original alone. I found it pretty easy, and I am not at all a handy person!

I will take it as a yes to the topic of this post. This may be relevant to you as well Ean in due course.

For the first time I have a near empty tank. I was expecting the low fuel light to come on when the gauge read zero and when range on the computer read zero - then maybe about 10 litres left as a reserve.

However - the low fuel light has come on with 100km range left on the computer and just under 1/4 tank. Can I assume I now only have about 10 litres left and that when the computer's range gets down to zero and the gauge reads zero that is it - nothing left - no reserve.

So does empty and no range really mean empty and no range?

I'm guessing "yes".
I've driven ~100Km after the "bong" and low fuel light with the gauge showing just under 1/4 to pull into the servo and fill with 84L of fuel. The gauge drops very quickly from 1/4 to empty.
I thought the tank was only 80L - I should check the manual again. Does anyone know?

From the Little I know,

I ran the car till it said i had 60ks left and the needle was not much above Empty..mine has 2 tanks but you do fill them seperate..

The normal tank took 84ltrs,
The 2nd tank to 96ltrs,

So im assuming its 90ltr normal plus 100ltr long range tank..

I never heard no BONG noise when the light came on tho.

190ltrs got me from Alice to Darwin with the trailer and still have above a 1/4 tank left.

Thats the little I have learnt so far.
