All but the D4 are now gone unfortunately. I do miss my old D3 it was so much fun off road, as was the D1. Though paying for four rego’s and insurance for them was a bit of a pain.

Bought 3 months back with 126000km
took the town rims off , modified the front calipers, fitted 18 LR rims with COOPER ATMs
drives like a dream
changed to 5W40
drive light throttle
turned the dust catching snorkel to face aft, apparently face fwds it upsets mapping and uses MORE fuel, not used since so cannot verify LR Time findings
should(hopefully) see out my days
still have the TDV6 needs cuppla small---ish things done 236000k then i will sell it or give it to my son
Hi all,
After being too busy to post for yonks (young kids, study, new job etc), here I am the proud owner of a 2010 D4.
Just bought a 2010 (2.7 TDV6) auto. 330,000 freeway miles on it from the first owner but drives very tight.
I'm sure I'll have costs soon of course, but currently it drives as smooth as butter and I haven't got any clunks, clanks or squeaks as yet.
I'll be keeping my eye on the turbo (only one to worry about, thankfully), the transmission (and engine), and will need to keep an eye on air bags and the EHB (I'll just be using the trans in Park of course, but need an HB sometimes) and all the other paraphernalia. The PO had their mechanic (Kool House of Rover) fit a filter to the transmission - does anyone know about this mod?
Plans:
- I have a Nanocom and am planning on getting the D4 software for the Nanocom I already have (rather than spend a lot more on the GAP Diagnostics IID). Anyone else using a Nanocom with a D4? I gather it has a limitation or two eg. it can program keys but not erase keys from the BCU, and the clunky interface and speed apparently makes the EAS adjustments tricky). Are there any other notable limitations of the Nanocom compared to other IID - I've read the threads comparing convenience and reliability, I'm thinking about pure capability
- I need to make another key fob, as we only have one (and it is huge). I plan to program it with the Nanocom of whatever system I go with). Some on eBay look good. Quite a few are advertised as 433MHz ID49 "LR4 2012 to 2018". I'm guessing that '2018' refers mostly to the fob shell? (the shell changing mid D4? and then being used for early D5?) In any case, were the fob electronics basically the same in D4's from 2009 to 2016 and so can I buy a FOB compatible with any D4 (or 'LR4" thank you USA)?
- AV system (rear view camera, audio connection, a solution for navigation and rear-view screen - CarPlay or other) is something I need to sort out. Audio on ours is the 'mid-range' system I think, with small screen and Harman Kardon speakers. The bluetooth iPhone connects and phone works well but I need music too (without CD's) I cannot for the life of me find the old 30 pin connector (not in the cubby box) that I've read in some threads was fitted to early D4's. .I notice a few threads about audio options (notice Alpine iLX-W650E etc, and the issues with some some of the early 'plug and play' connectors from Aerpro etc - has a true plug and play become available) and will follow up there, but any hints or thoughts/experiences are welcome. Is there are cheap neat bezel to just swap out the small screen
- The next thing is a roof rack. On our D2 the OCAM 2.2m flat full-length rack has been awesome. (I get the impression that 1.8m will be the longest for a D3/4 due to shorter roof, right?) I noticed that OCAM have for the D3/4 a 'roof top tent' rack (1.8m) with extra cross bars (but same spec alum tube used), weighings 35kg and the 'cage rack', 29kg. Both on sale around $550. I'll probably use a roof top tent at some stage and so have the heavier one in mind - any opinions or experiences, or recommendations of other brand (affordable) options are very welcome.
- Bullbar. I'd prefer a (poly) Smart bar to be very honest, but I don't think their are available for D3/D4? We have a Smart bar on the D2 and it has been great - I haven't hit a steer, but there are a lot of reasons why I like it - weight for one. What's a cheap light but invincible bullbar for under $800..? I'm sure there are plenty...?
Really looking forward to travelling in this beast. So easy to lay the seats flat and crash out! Our old D2 SE7 is still register and was my daily driver until last week and just passed 500,000km. The engine, transfer case and auto seem to be heading for 750,000(!) but the air con has become very weak (blocked filter?), the front RH ACE actuator leaked so I had to decommission it 3 years ago, the right rear Bridgestone dueller has a very slow leak (valve?) and the door locks were playing up so I have turned off Superlock and gone with just the alarm on/off. Needs new headlamps too. Too many things to fix on the old D2 and I don't really have time at the moment. Such a shame because it has been awesome. Moreover the pound is strong against the $AU again, so parts for the D2 were going to cost about $1900. But the back seats can't be laid flat and the interior is looking too old and tatty for my wife's standard. I would have fixed all that and kept it (not buying the D4) if the D2 really suited us. I know the D4 will cost us more, but it is so much more suitable for our family of four.
Welcome.
And use the EPB…
People who only use the very small Pawl inside the transmission to hold a vehicle are asking for major damage and repair bills.
EPB doesn’t mess up if it’s ADJUSTED correctly and serviced.
