    2.7 TDV6 - EGR Blanking

My TDV6 EGR system is all serviceable and working as it should. I have read a lot about blanking off the EGRs and the benefits in long term reliabiity. I have read that if blanked - as long as the EGRs themselves are serviceable you will not get any errors when the blanks are on.

So has anyone put EGR blanks on their 2007 and later TDV6s and what are the pros and cons. Kits are cheap and easy to do yourself if required.

Knowing my luck if I do not put the blanks on I will get blocked EGRs when I am miles from anywhere and have a miserable drive home in limp mode.

    Hi Garry,
2007 and newer D3s (and I suspect RRS) have the Euro IV engine. A consequence of this is that if the EGRs are blanked it throws an engine management fault. Currently, there is no workaround for this.

On this basis, the best that I can suggest is to carry some spare EGRs.

    Best Wishes,
    Peter

    I have Garry,
My EGR valves on my 05 where working fine too but decided that it would not hurt fitting them for the same readon as you stated. I got the simple blank plates that you leave the existing pipework in place so from the outside it looks standard. You do need to remove the butterfly from the intake but that is pretty easy.

I read on the Uk forums that as long as the EGR itself is still serviceable the fault message does not occur even on later engines.

However I am always sceptical - hence my request for comments from people who have fitted them.

Maybe I need to amend my original post to specify 2007 and newer 2.7 TDV6s.

    Thanks

    Hey Rich,

Is it correct that blanking them off improves engine pick up? How does your D3 drive now compared to what it was like before you put the blanking plates in?

    cheers,

To tell you the truth I could not feel any difference!

The blanking plates are not to make the engine go better - it is to stop the EGR etc clogging and making the ECU having a dummy spit and going into go slow mode - and then having to spend money to fix them.

The downside is that because some of the exhaust gases are not being fed back into the inlet system, emissions increase.

Often when an EGR valve fails it stays partly open. This adversely affects performance but a blanked one will not. It will still fail in time if blanked beforehand unless blanked on the inlet side rather than the usual (easier access) outlet side. The 2007+ models show an annoying warning light in the instrument cluster when a valve fails. The light was added because failed valves (and there were many) weren't being detected by the driver and thus weren't being replaced. The criteria for a detecting a failed valve is that the mechanism doesn't move to where it should, as its posiiton is monitored. If I had a pre 2007 model and the valves were still operating correctly, I would just unplug the valve electrical connectors (with the engine stopped) and remove the throttle butterfly.

Im just wondering what the condition of the MAP sensor was before blanking the EGR ?
