The basic unit is about $440.00. The 'bells & whistles' able to be linked via a laptop is your $1000.00 odd.

If you don't mind me asking, what are the benefits of being able to link the Faultmate to a laptop?

I have a Hawkeye with D2 codes in it and right now I'm getting a price on unlocking the D3 codes on the same unit. Then the one unit will be able to be used on all D2's and D3's either petrol or diesel.

I know one thing with a Hawkeye you can plug it into any vehicle that you have the codes unlocked for. It isn't limited to just the one vehicle.

I don't mind admitting though I do not know which unit is better and or if any of us back yard mechanics can use all the futures of either unit anyway.

There is the Faultmate faultcode reader and there is the Faultmate MSV2. Very different things. The MSV2 is like autologic giving you a full diagnostic and the ability to change many settings.
The Faultcode reader can read fault codes on any vehicle of the same type as yours.

OK but with the faultmate reader you can reset any fault codes ...correct?

In reality how many people need to be able to reprogram settings? I would imagine for the average bloke it would potentially cause more issues then not.

On D3UK , a couple of years ago , there was a guy who
thought he'd "spice-up" his ZF gear changes ( ) with the unit.
Vehicle had to be taken away on a low-loader to the Dealer for a reset
Not all software is in every D3's system . Altering the rain-sensor wipe
sensitivity is useful

If you flash the auto box module chip at the wrong temp you cannot reflash and it has to be bench flashed. LR system has a temp check before re-flash. Faultmate doesn't.
Could be what happened. MSV2 is a powerfull tool.
Yes most folk just need the faultcode reader.

The MSV2 will only read and clear codes if not connected to a laptop. My MSV2 lives in the vehicle but the laptop only visits for special events.
