Of course it may have not been the Penrite oil which was the cause but if I go down this road again I will definately use ZF ATF. Also I have since been told by a Ford workshop foreman that when he was on ZF training course the German instructor stressed this point. I know that OEM people always say this but he convinced the mechanic.
Thanks for the warning, swampy1. My indy was told that Penrite was buying the ZF additive, but that after a while ZF refused to supply them.

But who knows? Is the problem the lack of an additive, or the presence of something in other oils that maybe dissolves some very special material in the ZF box?

Not worth the risk - I will stick with the genuine ZF ATF.

    Cheers,

    Paul

FRONT DIFF REPLACE AT 60K PLUS SUSPENSION

My 2008 D3 gone in for 60K service and 3yr wty expires in 2 weeks. Therefore asked they perform wty check. Within 2 hours was rung to say - whine in fron diff so will replace under wty, excessive movement in fron suspension so replacing ball joints and other components etc. As far as i was concerned having just also replaced 4 Cooper LTZs and got a great deal from Cooper as they had not made it to the 50K warranty mark, the D3 was running and handling really well. I had agreed to the extra fuel injector service over and above the standard minor service charge and had just stated I thought that there might be more frequency and more of a clunk when accelerating away afer foot off. Wow really happy they are so on to it and doing all this no questions asked but sure does make you wonder, how you could expect to run without taking up the extended wty! May have to think more seriously about back to basics defender options as in an earlier post in general chat re changing from D3 to older defender. Still the extended warranty price does not seem too outrageous and at least the dealer seems to really be doing the right thing and did so with the previous Disco as well. I do like to get them dirty and another trip west is on the cards. I will say that the current D3 has been absolutely flawless and I would not have suspected any of the above needed doing.

Don't know yet just had the call to state doing due to whine in diff and movement in front suspension. Ordering the parts in, apparantly all in stock so should have back Monday or Tuesday and get a better breakdown then.

    ..
When Penrite first started claiming their oil was for
ZFHP26 box , a few of us asked for a specific details and a
guarantee. Their HQ wouldn't supply such info , and shortly
after D3's began failing , they withdrew the claim of compatibility.
Reckon they just thought they'd have a bit more market ?
I really would like to know what's SO special about it's content .........
or rather , why the box is such crap without it.
