Can't decide if this is brilliant or completely stupid

Most places have a hoist, but it seems like a lot of palava (sp? Ron?) to work on an engine.

Can't see how you could do all that unplugging/unbolting in half an hour, or even an hour. Reckon it'd take quite a but longer to put back together than to separate.

    Anyway - Progress. Or Not.

Just like the problems with electrical dramas that can be encountered fitting seemingly innocuous items like a bull bar or UHF to a d3/4 this is another nail in the coffin of the home mechanic being able to conveniently work on these. Same pretty much for most of the new trucks. Cheers

D4 body off for rocker covers

I was told ....D4 was 6,000kms out of warranty. Some heavy duty driving had been needed to hurriedly exit a rapidly flooding deep gully. Engine making 'clacking' noise, possibly hydraulic lifters? Dealer had allegedly been disinterested in engine investigation but had quoted $15,000 for a replacement engine. Hence to independent workshop for work. Had taken 1 day+ to get body off.

I'm still in shock. Looked very similar to OldSalt's photo. I obviously have to make some adjustments to come to terms with the modern automotive world.
    Cheers

Is this another engine that Landrover believes the consumer should only expect 80-100k from? Merchantable quality? Hmmm - maybe not.

Tou are still entitled to claim under consumer legisation. Reasonable expectation that the engine should last longer.

I would imagine the D3 and D4 with a 2.7 fitted are the same regarding rocker covers or heads being taken off.

My D3 has very recently had one of its heads taken off as part of a warranty claim and this was done with the body still on. So yes it would seam someone was having a lend of you regarding rocker covers.

I have read elsewhere that you also need to take the body off to change the fuel pump belt, that is incorrect as well.

    cheers,

    Hey MOWOG,

Any progress on this for you? My D4 SE was just diagnosed with the same issue....though the leak is miniscule.

Austral recon they have the parts in country, so mine is going in mid next month for the two day operation.

Can I ask what MY your D4 is incidently, just trying to establish if it's 2009 (MY10) build vehicles only?

There's a D4 with more than 100,000Ks on it already?

Can't wait to get one of these new complicated vehicles, advancement?

I can just imagine the dealer, now it's out of warranty, gonna take a day at $150(or whatever) an hour before we can get started? And then it's gotta all go back together proprly.

I just hope it goes back together properly......

Looks like JC,MR auto etc will be shopping for a few more hoists....

Looks like the D2 is gonna be here for a while
