Thread: D4 Shock!!

    D4 Shock!!

Was in an independent Land Rover workshop this week and had a D4 pointed out to me that had the complete body shell lifted with a 2 post hoist off the chassis.

The explanation was that the body shell had to come off for access to remove the rocker cover on a TDV6.

Was someone having a major 'lend' of me or was I hallucinating??

I've seen comments about the body having to come off - to make changing the turbos quicker, or changing motors. I doubt the body needs to come off to do the rocker covers.

Taking the body off is not too hard - see a post by Ron which showed it on a RRS, which has a similar setup.

My friend use to work for LR as a mech... he said its quicker for the body to come off with engine work... takes around 30 minutes if you have all the equipment.

    Amazing design!

I guess having to take the body off to complete routine maintanance stops the DIY crowd from fiddling for free at home!

I remember doing gearbox work on my 2a...

Remove setas, squab, floor, and take the box out through the cab.

If it is a 30 minute job I guess its progress, stripping out the 2a took 1/2 a day.

What does "Independent" mean? If it was a D4 it'd be under warranty and any repairs would be done I assume, by a dealer, not the local LR workshop.

Mine will be going in for a body off treatment soon to deal with a leaky turbo. I am just waiting on a call to say they have the parts.
