G'Day Mate.
I'd hazard a guess and say cradles for optional (unfitted)equipment such as ICE etc
Dave.

SubscriberI don,t have that frame under the passengers seat in my D4, but I think the unit under the drivers seat is the audio unit ?
D4 2.7litre
In a HSE D3 the Nav disc player is fitted under the passenger seat, yes also some Audio related box under the drivers seat.

SupporterThe nav disk(hard disk) in the D4 is in the Nav unit in the dash board, not under the seat. Probably one of the 1200 differences (just read that somewhere else, probably wrong... like most things you read on the net)
Probably a few pie crumbs and a lager stain...this vehicle was hand built in Solihull dont forget...
Cheers
PS. The technology is there but its the same engineers and builders who put together the Freelander 1
Drivers side is definitely the amplifier for the radio unit, the passenger side, can't remember

Agree with sniegy about drivers side.
The passengers side is a perfect cradle for an in car PC.
