The "real" throbbing V8 sound so beloved of rev heads is also very much determined by the firing order. Can't recall the sequence but I know that years ago when I traded my ageing 5.0L V8 Commodore (which came standard off the production line with stainless steel extractor-type headers!!! ) for the LS1 version I was very disappointed that in 2nd gear and the window down it was a very different sound... then I discovered that for smoothness etc GM had changed the firing sequence. I suspect the later V8s on LR have gone the same way...they make a noise...but not THE noise...

How did the op go with this, next time I'm at my mates shop I was thinking of throwing it on the hoist chopping off the rear muffler and seeing how it sounds.

Worst case 10 minutes of work to chop it then weld it back on if it sounds crap.

    yes and no

it is a simple change, and repair if not right,

If my D2's are any indication there should be a nice weight saving too

I have always said that if a Holden V8 sounds like it is missfiring, then it is probably running well! I love my Holden V8s.

hi guys just an update on the exhaust took it to a lot of exhaust places and most had no idea one guy though had a d3 tdv6 and said to remove the 2nd muffler (the one that looks like a 50 litre fuel tank ) so what the hell we could always put it back. Well what a difference as soon as it came off the hoist and reversed out of the workshop it sounded great ,no difference at idle nice and quiet but once given a bit of force on the throttle it gives a nice burbling sound not noisy in the inside , just love to have the windows down and listen to that V8 . am very pleased and total cost was $200.00 that is with some chrome drop extentions on the ends .
    cheers mark

Thanks for the update mark, I spent the last few days at the shop with intentions of doing the disco exhaust but got caught up doing the exhaust on the race car and ran out of time as the wife was screaming at me to come back home.
