If that was the first post in a thread I'd have to agree but since it's a response to a question asked of the person trying to sell (in an attempt to try to better advise where he should place ad to get best response?) it's a bit harsh personally.

I was going to ask a similar generalised question without mentioning what I had but wether or not I should get vendor status or if it was ok to go through markets but now I'm worried about merely asking.

we have a place for advertising, buying and selling stuff, it is called the markets.

you get to put a link to the advert in marketplace alerts so it shows up in new post searches etc etc

it isnt always black and white, but from a forum management perspective the above smells like an advert, looks like an advert so would be deemed an advert and thus should be in the markets and would normally just be deleted and if it was habitual the poster would be warned then infracted.

similarly, market research, ie what's my vehicle worth types questions, are also deemed commercial activity and are not permitted, and should be put in the markets with something like best offer as the price.

you don't have to be a vendor to put things in the markets, any one can including commercial traders, free of charge, and many do.

in the forums, only a vendor can post an advert, and that has to be in the verandah area of the site.

it makes it easier to keep the place in some sort of order.

Does it hurt when you get infracted?

Actually I'd forgotten about till you posted this....but in all honesty I wasn't advertising, consciously at least, I was merely commenting on the propensity or otherwise of people to buy second hand tyres, particularly if they're only planning one big trip.

I'll buy second hand tyres as thats what I can afford on a single parent/uni income. The current set were freebies with the winch.
