Thread: Rear cargo electrics

I have some 14mm2 cable running into the jack storage compartment from the starter battery on a D4 2.7. I have a fuse block purchased at boating store and some cig lighther board that are hard wired to this fuse box along with a cut Waeco fridge lead. The board also has the rear Andersen plug hanging off it. It is a simple setup and works for me.

What are your needs power wise at the rear? Is it a second battery or just a permanently wired oputlet for fridge? Are you after details on routing cables? If so there are some posts on this for installing a UHF Radio.

i have the traxide rear power kit and want to mount a cigarette socket, anderson plug and 240V outlet in the rear cargo area.

i have already fed the cables to the jack compartrment and just need some ideas on where to mount all these things and whether to mount them on the cargo area panels or whether anyone has come up with some better ways of mounting all the electrics.

I have all my gear (fuse box) simply tucked behind the panel on top of the carpet in the space forward of the rear jack compartment. So it is all out of sight it was initially a temporary solution but I have decided it is probably the better solution i then run my leads out under the rearmost seats and up between them where there is a gap. I had also tried the rearmost foot well but this was inconvenient as when using the rearmost row of seats people would kick it and step on it although no damage was done not ideal espcialy if you end up with a 14mm2 cable earthing out.

P.S. I have also put a plug in that fits my air compressor and I can then run the compressor off this plug in the rear a little quicker than opening up the hood.

I put 2 additional 12v sockets in the 2nd row above the air vents. Nice little thin holder there that the sockets can fit in neatly mounted in some MDF. These get used heaps by the kids with their chargers, DVD units and I run my 12v lighting off them when camping.

I ran a separate cable for the Engel and just leave the 12v cord in the jack bay and pull it out when needed.

I also run a GPS (in the front cubby hole), battery monitor, UHF and an inverter.

All this comes off a Blue Seas fuse box which lives under the drivers seat. Every item is fused. I am considering moving the fuse box to the jack area to get it out of the cabin in case I get water in there.

I personally wouldn't have too many sockets in the rear as it is usually full of luggage and stuff. If you need it in rear, perhaps consider mounting them up near the cubby boxes right at the back.
