Black Smoke on gear change D4

While my truck is still at the shop I am runing about in a loan car, a magna. The kids thought the winders on the windows a great improvement over electric windows Even like the key to open and close the doors beats that button acording to little Miss 4 Even like the key to open and close the doors beats that button acording to little Miss 4

Just went up the road and was behind a D4 TDV6. Assume it is a 2.7 version but not sure. It was blowing black smoke every time it changed gears. It was being driven conservatively.

Does mine do this, do we all do this or is this a D4 in need of a service?

Just running a bit rich is my guess, may have a dodgy generic tune in it.

Unless it is a 3.0L in which case there have been some issues with oil sitting in a connector pipe between the turbos.
