    Satnav

Continuing my raft of daft questions, what's the consensus on the LR satnav usefulness in Aus (it's shockingly bad in the UK) ? Should I bother obtaining / installing an Aus satnav DVD into my RRS when it arrives here or just put the money towards getting a separate unit such as the HEMA nav ?

Anyone have a rough idea of cost for the LR satnav disc over here ?

    Cheers

I definitely would not bother with an up to date disc. I'd try to source a second hand disc on the cheap so at least the Sat Nav is useable.

However I'd say yes buy a Hema, VMS or Garmin. Easy to keep up to date.
Portable switch from car to car.
These are all more user friendly than the factory unit as well.

    I have a Garmin 1490T with Oz Topo V3 and it's great.
I don't have it mounted on the windscreen but down in the cupholder on the drivers side just below the radio.
Looks like this Garmin is now the top of the range for Garmin:

Or check out the Hema & VMS here:

Thanks, the 2ndhand satnav DVD is the same thought I'd been having, guess I'll be keeping an eye on fleabay to see if one crops up.

The Garmin unit looks to be a good option, based on price anyway. We have an old TomTom unit in SWMBO's car that's provided sterling service over the last few years and it's very simple to use, so a newer version had been on the cards when it finally gives up the ghost.

Is there any justifiable reason for spending the extra $300 on the HEMA unit ?

I'd speak to Brian at GPSOZ, email him with your questions.
Mention that I (Rich Disco D3) refered you as he is a fellow 4wd club member of mine.

Garmin also has a promotion on lifetime free map updates until 31 Jan 2012.

Hi Mike , I have an old sat nav disc from the D3 version 15 I think and you can have it for a very reasonable $0.00 if you want plus P&H of course. I get home in about 2 weeks so let me know if you are interested and I'll send it over. At least that way you can try it and if you don't like it it won't cost you.....
PM me if you are interested.
    regards
    PS welcome back to Aus
