    RWC project

I've decided to build my own RWC to be attached to the original steel bumper as per most D3/D4 single RWCs. The plan includes allowance for a 2nd wheel on the left (tyres max 31.5" dia) for the occasional outback trip, with the arm only being fitted when 2 spares are desired. I'm hoping to find a suitably slim catch that can be mounted above the park distance sensors. I'm considering attaching the light cluster(s) to the rims rather than in the bumper for better visibility. The building wont start until early next year due to time constraints but that will provide more think time anyway.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi Graeme,
I would just be wary of the legal requirements fitting a wheel carrier especially a home made one. I fitted a genuine ADR supposedly compliant dual wheel carrier only to be caught out over the pits with no rear reflectors showing and obscured reversing lights.
Not sure how you will go with the reversing sensors, I wish you the best of luck there, mine stopped working when I put the tow hitch in........

I am aware that there are ADR requirements for visibility angle and heights for lights and reflectors and the light for the rear number plate. I'm not aware of any restrictions on RWCs (or bike racks etc) being home-made.

I'd like to find out what brand of catch Kaymar use as I suspect they don't make their own.

    Hi Graeme,
In regard to home-made I don't think there are any, there are to many around to be illegal. Mines a Kaymar, I'll have a look tomorrow, I don't remember seeing a brand name and the bracket is actually welded to the frame, could well be a Kaymar bracket.
