Cooper AT/3

I'm wary of this...

It's my own experiences or those of close friends which drive home my opinions towards said manufacturer.

I do not have any issue with their sister company which I believe make exceptional tyres... Often in patterns which are soon after mimicked by their sibling, in an albeit similar tread pattern etc.

I have now towed our 2.5 ton van twice with the AT3's on and while the pressure only goes up about 6 psi after an hour towing on the freeway it doesn't tow anywhere near as stable as with the STT's.

I took a gamble with getting a tyre with a 109 load rating knowing that I would be towing a heavyish van and for towing our van it hasn't paid off but they are still excellent for norml driving.
I would hazard a guess they would be fine for a camper etc but I don't feel for me anyway they are good for a van that has quite a bit higher centre of gravity and a greater pendulam affect.

Now I would bet this only applies for the 18" AT3's with the 109 load rating, the 17's have a heavier load rating.

Anway I will now be going away over Christmas with the STT's on rather then the AT3's.

Have done a bit on these new GG AT2s, so far I'm impressed, quiet and good grip on and off road.

Neil I have had 2 warrenty claims honored by Cooper Tires.

I know of three failures with Coopers. One resulted in the rollover of the vehicle. One of the others took the vehicle off the road, but thankfully it didn't hit anything. And the third...well, the driver had just finished telling me about the first two, when the tyre delaminated.

Just dropped down from 20 inch Continentals on my 03 rangy to 18 inch Cooper A/T3. Boy thay give a good ride. Incidently whilst on the 20 inch the front brakes squeaked a lot. Since going to the new 18 inch rims and tyres, no squeak at all. Interesting?

I'm with you Gordon. Prior to the D3 & D4, I had travelled around 160K in total on Copper AT's (old tread pattern) and never had a problem. They tend to get clogged in thick mud, but then again, they are a AT tyre.
The only negative I had with them is that they used to flick stones.

I have now done 10000 K on my AT3's and are very happy with them. Have always run BFG except for one set of Coopers years ago which I hated but as BFG's were not available and I was going away I fitted AT3's and they are very good on both black top and offroad and with a van on for around 3000 they still impressed.

Funny enough, I changed to Coopers because the BFG's let me down too many times. The last was when I had to brake hard in the rain coming up to a round-a-bout, towing a trailer. The tyres let go and I ended up all over the place.

Are the AT3's really quiet or quiet when compared to the factory garbage they come out with? Also have you noticed any change in the fuel ocnsumption? cheers

I don't know if these attachments have worked, but the drama of my new tyres continues.
Because my wife has to drive out next week I managed to get hold of 3 X 265/65/R17 Cooper A/T3's so they have gone on the back & 1 is the spare.
On the front I have Goodrich in the same size but H/T.
Thankfully they have the same ( within 5mm) rolling diameter.
I get the other 2 Coopers when the car gets to Cairns.
I didn't overly like the look of the BB-6 wheels when I put them on Thursday night but, in full daylight they look alright.
I was also surprised how open the A/T3 tread pattern is, I think it looks far more open the the old Cooper model, the tread is also very deep.
I have only done 1 short drive since fitting them & didn't notice any extra noise though the fronts are still H/T.
I am very happy that I now have a bit of tyre meat between the rim & the rocks.
Must remember to get a wheel alignment done when over on the coast.
