Has anyone made any progress on fitting nav?

Graeme how did you mount your screen? Is there a post with pics or could you post some.

    Cheers

I managed to email the Russian website unicar and asked about how they put the monochrome non touch screen on the 7 inch touch screen and they were very helpful in perfect English. They have a windows CE car computer that comes with a bracket to replace the non touch screen (looks identical to the Land Rover one) and a DVD player that goes into the glove compartment. The audio just plugs into the aux input on the factory stereo. This comes with navigation software and a bunch of display options. They said they could install Igo 8.3 with maps for Australia but also that it is not locked so you can install any windows CE application (oziexplorer for the off road). I've got Igo in my patrol and it is great. He said he could put it up on eBay with PayPal so you have some buyers protection in case it doesn't work / turn up!

Now for the scary part... The price...

For the computer / screen / and DVD player it's $1000USD and if you want to put the non touch screen display onto the touch screen the video converter is $550USD if you don't use this you have to relocate the screen so you can use the radio and Bluetooth factory functions. They can also supply a reversing camera for $200USD but I think you could easily get one locally cheaper. So all up you are looking at close to $1600 plus installation (if you are not happy to do it yourself) certainly an expensive option compared to a Chinese eBay option but not too bad if you compare with the factory option plus you get way more functionality.

I'm still undecided but if I do end up purchasing I'll post how it all goes. If anyone wants Michael at unicars email address just PM me.

    Cheers

Thanks Disco4pilot for doing all the homework.
I myself are keen to go ahead. If we get enough interest, there could be some savings on freight......Sniegy????

    Cheers, Craig

If it is that easy then you should be able to use the small screen input signal to any PC ot CE device.
They seem to charge like wounded bulls.

For that price I'd rather go down my path & use a 7" alpine monitor with the hidden nav module plugged into the aux for sound. There's also the option of adding cameras, iPod & more.

I got an interesting reply from
Black box solutions on the canbus system but I'm in the car at the moment, I'll update later.

If I can get the small screen input up separately I would put an in car PC under the drivers seat and runn everythin through that.

Here's an early pic of my $300 unit with the power lead still hanging down the console, whereas now its hidden. The cardboard visor could be a little more up-market. I'll add a pic of the mount shortly.

That is an option I am also considering however you would still have to purchase the video signal converter ($550) and I think it could be difficult to integrate the screen as neatly into the dash.

I guess you could try and purchase a factory bracket for a touch screen from LR and then find a screen that fits. My guess is that this is easier said than done.

Robocop how are you going to mount the alpine monitor? Are you going to just move the screen when you want to access the factory display?

    Hey Disco4se and others

I have asked Michael a few more questions and he is going to get back to me later today. I guess it is rather early in Russia!

I'll defiantly ask if it would be cheaper for two or more at least postage may be cheaper.

As I said I haven't made up my mind but this is how I will try and justify it to myself and more difficultly my wife...

    1) Looks factory and bolted down so more difficult for a would be thief to smash a window and just grab the screen (Honey just think how expensive a new window will be )

    2) Hard wired so will always have the reverse camera working. Would be massively ****ty to hit something or someone when your non hard wired unit was in the glovebox...

    3) The awesomeness of having the land rover screen still visible for the Bluetooth phone function and the show off factor.

    4) The shear joy of pulling apart the interior on my new (to me) Disco 4 interior to fit it
