    Front runner wheel carrier

I have previously had a kaymar on my former 4by but decided that I did not need two spares or the extra weight on the disco.

The front runner wheel carrier opens enough to hit the tail lights, and seems to be no where near as sturdy. Have only had it for two weeks and not to thrilled with it.

Has anyone fitted a gas strut to their front runner ? I have a heap of spare struts but cannot work how to make it fit as there are two different planes to mount it to.

Those of you that have front runners....are you happy with it ?

    Hi Brett,

If the carrier or wheel is coming around enough to hit the taillights, you need to adjust the cam underneath. I have not had any issues with my carrier, and do not even bother with a locking pin around town. I would use a locking pin for off road work though. I have though about a gas strut, but it would mean butchering the main arm, and I would think some reinforcement. I suspect a fair bit of trial and error would be required to get a gas strut working correctly, and I don't see that as a priority currently.

Went back to oppy lock today. They are going to take the bumper off and have a squiz. The bumper is also slightly bulging on the middle.....Wonder if that has anything to do with the rather large nuts hanging down on this car.

I fitted mine this weekend just gone & dare say it, it was pretty easy, but slightly painful in some aspects (didnt realise plastic could stretch that far)
But got the job done in around 4 hrs. I am pretty pedantic & measure, re-measure when required. Bumper on, bumper off, bumper on, bumper off...wow! Plastic can also be very sharp, VERY sharp!
With the kind offer of help & words of wisdom from Oldsalt & Admiral, I attacked the task & it works. I like that when it "just" works!
I will also say i appreciate the offer of assistance from the staff at Dolium in WA, who shipped me a whole kit to get the parts i required to fit the carrier.
Fender-tour Thanks heaps, I hope your holiday is a great one.
The wheel carrier is great, as i said it just works & looks the goods too.
    Cheers all

Careful how you answer this Sniegy - it might not be there one morning if you give the right(wrong) answer!
