Gday all......(excuse my lack of technical speak, I'm still learning)
I have fluid leaking from the black concertina rubber part near the front left & right wheel & I'm told I need to replace the steering rack. Was replaced about 18 months ago.
Genuine LR replacement $2535 includes fitting and gst.
It has been suggested that I should go to an engineer and have grease nipples fitted to fix the problem instead of replacing the steering rack.
I am traveling with my caravan and want to make sure that the Disco doesn't give up on me.
Also, I have a new front bull bar and new steel rear bar with wheel carrier, does this mean I should get a wheel alignment done to allow for the change in weights.
Any comments would be appreciated please.

Grease nipples !! Don't embarass yourself .It is a power steering rack, not a ball joint.
If it is a genuine LR rack, it should be covered by a warranty. I would ask the question.

Hi Brightsmarty,
When I got my wheel alignment done I made sure the vehicle was fully loaded, long range tank full wheels fitted and the fridge on board. They adjusted things so I'm assuming it made a difference. Personal opinion I would have the vehicle loaded when I get the alignment done, the service guy did actually advise me to do this.
Steering rack leaking, like the other people have mentioned grease ain't going to fix it, sounds like a warranty issue, back you go with the receipt, unless the vehicle is still in warranty, much easier discussion.
Steering rack in these is just a TRW unit, easily recoed. I am sending one away for just that leak soon, SHOULD be all done for under $900 IIRC. (+ fitting etc)
While the rack is out, check the lower steering column uni for siezing joints, if they feel stiff then replace it NOW. About $240 from LR.
