Thread: After market tire pressure sensors.

    After market tire pressure sensors.

I was surprised to find that my 2008 Sport doesn't have the tire pressure monitoring system installed.
Retrofitting the OEM kit is extremely complicated and costly so I am looking at a system that compliments the car nicely.
Has anyone on here done the same with their Sport or LR3/4? I don't want to fit the unsightly screw on Dust Cap type, I'd rather go for a system with the sender installed inside the tire.

    thx.

i have 2 sets of TPMS, one on my Disco 1 and another on my D3.

I got both through Hannibal in Brisbane.

The D1 has the sensor inside the tyre but attached to the valve..The D3 has the sensor strapped to the rim inside the tyre.

Both work well but the uptake to the display is quicker on the D3.

I had an issue with one of the sensors , that trivial that I forget what it was, but I do remember Hannibal were excellent at sorting it out...it was on the old valve attached sensor...I've had no problems with the sensors strapped inside the rim'

It has never occured to me that this could be an after market installation. Can you give a rough estimate of the cost? Can it be a DIY job?

I have been interested in this too. There was a group of guys that put together a group buy of the Tyredog TPMS back 2008:
DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - Tyre Pressure Monitoring system (TPMS) bulk purchase
TYREDOG - TPMS Wireless Tyre Pressure and Temperature Monitoring Systems

Following is a discussion retrofitting the LR one with some part numbers:
DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - Tyre Pressure Monitoring System

Here's a South African mob that does a version:
    Valor On/Off Road 201-S TPMS

Not sure of the features though. I would expect any TPMS you fit should be capable of having varying standard pressures - one for off road pressures (sand/rock) and normal road pressures. I imagine that would be part of the unit calibration.

I'll look in to a bit more and post up if I come up with anything.
    Cheers,

    Sean

Redback, I saw that too but I think it's only for the individual units for the tyre and does not include the ECU etc..

Nice. It would be good if it could be integrated with existing screen rather than replacing the rear view mirror.

I have installed a system from Kipoint in my D4. Cost about $120 on ebay and has been working fine for 6 months so far. Shows tyre pressure, temp and car voltage. Has alarms that can be set for different pressures. The display is easy visible in all light conditions.

See KIPOINT ENTERPRISE CO. LTD. www.kipoint.com.tw

By coincidence I got a call from my brother today. He had two flat tyres on his D4 while out on a club excursion. He wanted me to bring him my spares as we both have D4s.

A rocky creek bed was involved. One tyre showed severe damage presumably made worse by driving on it flat for a while. The expert advice from the experienced club members was that Sensa Tyre TPMS was a good system.

It is an internal clamp/strap to rim inside the tyre system. There is also a valve stem internal system. It can monitor trailer tyres at the same time as the car. Up to 16 sensors. Sensors turn on when the car reaches 5km/h and off after 5 minutes stationary. Batteries in each sensor last 10 years (longer than I keep cars).

    I am looking into prices.
