    Should I upgrade

    Hello all,

I have a 2009 D3 TDV6 SE (traveled 35k kms) which is coming up to the end of its warranty in June 2012. I am struggling to decide whether I should:

    1. Keep the D3 and get extended warranty
    - Whats the difference between the Allianz warranty bought via the dealer vs a broker?

    2. Sell the D3 and get a D4 or RRS
    - Is it a good time to get a D4 or RRS?
    - Will OZ get the 8 speed gearbox?
    - When is the D5 expected?
    - BMW and Merc are sharpening their pencils on their X5 and ML 4wd's. Will LR have to follow to stay competitive.

The D3 has been fantastic. This has been my first LR and I am hooked. I have done some light off road driving but mainly use it on road. Most of my driving is around Sydney as well as touring up the coast.

So what do you guys think?

    Thanks in advance,
    Ash

    - Whats the difference between the Allianz warranty bought via the dealer vs a broker? (I would be interested on outcome)

    - Will OZ get the 8 speed gearbox? (one day....but not soon)
    - When is the D5 expected? (is there going to be one?)
    - BMW and Merc are sharpening their pencils on their X5 and ML 4wd's.

With the Merc, and mate had a RRS TDV8 for a few years. His lease was up and went for the Merc. He is looking forward to when the Merc lease is up to go back to land Rover. He said it was a very uninspiring vehicle. It's quite noise inside throughout normal acceleration. He is really not happy with it.

But be prepared for a rude shock on what your D3 is worth now !!

35,000 km is very low for a three year old vehicle, I have a pretty much the same vehicle but it has done 70,000 km and still going strong and i will keep it for a few more years as I am trying to do a bit more off roading so do not mind the fact the car is getting a bit older.

I will probably wait until the 8 speed auto is brought to Australia, not sure when that will be but it will make its way down here as I think that will be a huge leap forward for the vehicles.

The Allianz insurance, which I have not taken up appears to be a pretty good product from all reports however if you have not have many issues with the D3 then you could get away without it.

The RRS TDV8's are meant to be sensational and if you like even a little off road then the X5 and Merc really are not on your list.

Hope this helps but sounds like a fun dilemma to have.

    Hi ash333,
IMHO if it ain't broke don't fix it.
Your D3 is a great vehcile and as Discoweb mentioned, you will get a rude shock at how little it is worth.
The D4 and RRS are fantastic all around vehicles, but be prepared to part with some decent $.

Had a client with a X5. He sold it to buy a Merc. Had the Merc for 12 months and went back to a X5. didn't like the Merc at all. Now......if he had of driven a RRS, he would most likely have bought one.
Forget about the X5 or Merc for off road work.

The 8 speed auto is a fair way off for us down under. No matter what you buy, it will outdate quickly, or be upgraded.

Let us know what you decide.

    Cheers, Craig

    Thanks for the replies.

I spoke to a dealer today. Was offered 46k for the D3. They had a D4 HSE, white, upgraded leather, key less entry for 105k. That's a lot of $$. However, the D4 is a big step up from the D3.

I am still undecided however leaning towards keeping the D3 for a few more years.

    Thanks,
    Ash

    ash333,

To use a term associated with another marque - Bugger !

Well if you hold the D3 for another 3 yrs you are 100% certain of not tearing up something around $40 K, what you would probably drop on the new HSE D4 in that time.

Then you can happily buy one in a couple of years and using the rationale expressed by my wife when she buys an expensive item on sale "this was 50% so I actually saved you $500" you can go nuts with accessories having saved yourself all that money over the previous few years.

Not sure that is how it works in practice but sounds good.

That is exceptionally low KMs. I sold my D3 TDV6 for 45K about 2 months ago and it had 107K on the clock. It was the cheapest 2009 in Aus. You could expect to get at least another $10k, if you sold to a private buyer..........that makes the D4 just 95K.......cheap as chips! D4 SDV6 is so worth the extra $$

    Hi Guys,

Common sense prevailed and I have decided to keep the D3. I got it serviced and checked by an independent this week and had no issues reported. I was advised that its probably not worth getting the extended warranty based on the condition of the vehicle and the amount of km's I have done. I have until the end of June to decide whether to get the extended warranty. Any advice?

    Thanks,
    Ash

Personally I'd get the extended warranty it is worth it and gives you peace of mind for two more years.

    cheers,
