My Defender came with 3 years free service. It has annual/20,000km iservice nterval, But I still get a letter recommending an intermediate service, six monthly, which they expect payment for. :o
Thats why I use the the Total Quartz and a genuine filter for the intermediate oil change. I use the same oil in my RRS TDV6:D

I don't know. I haven't taken delivery yet!

Always like to have a litre or so on hand for tops ups, any car, new or otherwise.
So what's the correct castrol oil for non DPF cars? I thought the required magnatec or edge professional meeting the 913-c spec, was unavailable to the public here in low quantities, unless branded LR from a dealer?

:o Well this is interesting, if you try to look up the Castrol recommended oil, it tells you to call technical assistance.

It seems Castrol and LR have formed a partnership where LR is pushing the Castrol brand.

That makes sense. Euro 5/6 regulations were written to force manufacturers to fit DPFs, so all euro 5/6 will have a DPF, whereas manufacturers usually managed to comply with euro 4 without fitting a dpf.

Edit. Looks like Sydney and minimum 20 litres..or Adelaide, 320 litres hmmm...

Hopefully not too late to help you but try Fuchs oil. I contacted their technical group and sent them the LR oil spec and checked independently online it meets/exceeds the LR specification for DPF fitted vehicles (Titan GT1 pro C1) and they market other specification oils as well for non-DPF I bought mine from Burton Auto 5l containers $42.00

goddammit (hope this is not swearing) but I wish I had read this before today (whether my D4 had a DPF or not).

Long story short - the low engine oil warning came on today while out for a Sunday drive near Beerwah Qld (only 18k on the clock - not ready for the first service yet).
A check of the service menu screen suggested the oil level was below minimum.
As a result, I could not for sure work out the correct oil purchase to do a top up (Land Rover Assist could not tell me if I had a DPF or not - the correct oil spec to buy depends on this info).

So now the D4 will be towed back to the dealer on Monday and I had to get a Taxi home.
There was a slight chance I could have purchased the correct oil near Beerwah but for the lack of knowledge by Land Rover Assist (and me for not reading sniegy's post before today) I could not do so.
So this issue has now cost Land Rover about $1K or more.
The Taxi alone was $300.
Anyway, I am home now and will take my 2.0L TDI VW Jetta to the shops in search for the correct oil (for next time)

On Monday the Dealer will need to work out why the oil level dropped to below minimum.
I suspect that this is normal for a new engine to use a bit of oil in the first few months of its' life.

This is what happened with my (then new) Jetta about 8 years ago but at least I was able to work out which oil to buy, do a top up and keep going to the 1st service. (VW Assist was on the ball and most helpful)

My oil level dropped in the first 6 months but has remained stable since. I get a 6 month service done as I drive a lot of short trips and want the oil changed to be on the safe side. :) I've got a MY13 D4.

Martin
