    Search for BMW Not working

I have just bought four 17" BMW wheels for a good price to put some muddies on for my RRS.

I want to review issues that might be associated with their fitting so I did a search for BMW in the D3/RRS section and no results were displayed yet I know they exist. eg I bookmarked this one a while back http://www.aulro.com/afvb/d3-d4-rrs/...mw-wheels.html

How do I search to actually get results like the one in the link above - I must admit I have never had much luck searching for item.

    Thanks

Thanks - but when searching for one word - shouldn't our (your) system be able to manage that.

I will try google now. (maybe you should link your search menu to google)

    Cheers

I assume you mean this bit of the FAQ?

    Searching Forums and Threads

How do I search for something?

To quickly find a thread or post of interest anywhere on the bulletin board, click on the 'Search' link in the navigation bar at the top of most forum pages. Then, type in the keyword or phrase you wish to search for, and select either 'Show Threads' or 'Show Posts' to view the results. By selecting posts, you will be shown only the actual post in which the search word appears.

For more control over the search, select 'Advanced Search' from the drop-down box. The advanced search page allows you to restrict your search to individual forums, find posts or threads by user, or return results based on tags (?). There are also options to find posts from a certain date, or threads with a certain number of replies.

How do I search a specific forum or thread?

If you are browsing a forum, you can quickly search for a thread or post within it by clicking on the 'Search this forum' link near the top of the page (it's above the list of threads). You can also search for individual posts within a thread by clicking on the 'Search this Thread' link at the top of any thread view page.

Using Google search to search AULRO.com
There is no mention I can find of the minimum string length. On other sites they allow a minimum string length of 4 but you can still search for BMW by typing BMW*. Is that possible to implement here?

    That does work either.

If I use advanced search, search my Username, keyword BMW, set search for anydate and older with at least no posts etc and just searching the D3/RRS section nothing is found. Not even this thread.

However if I just search my own user name as above but leave the keyword section blank they all pop up - so the Keyword BMW is not liked by the search function.

The AULRO search does not allow <4 letter search terms. So BMW, ABS, HDC etc are all out. As I mentioned above, unlike other sites you cannot (last I checked) search for them by adding a wildcard (*)

Need at least two works and * does not count as a word.

I can now see why people to not use it or fail to find what they are looking for.

As Incisor suggested I went into FAQs - typed search into the search bar and a number of items came up.

The only one that was directly relevant said this

"How do I search for something?

It doesn't say any thing about special rules or wildcard etc

Any way I have asked questions on the thread I linked too and am getting some good answers there. Google works pretty well too.

    Thanks
