    Rain sensor wipers

    Hi chaps,

I got a new windscreen put on day before yesterday and found out yesterday in the rain that my rain sensor wipers have stopped working . I just took a hose to it to test and they do actually work but are extremely insensitive - you need to direct a jet of water directly on the sensor to get the wipers to come on at just slow intermittent.

I've called Windscreens O'Brien and they are coming for a look at it next week. In the meantime, I thought I'd arm myself with some background knowledge. Any ideas guys

Mate, with my D4 I turn the intermittent timer up a bit and for some reason it changes the sensitivity (the more i turn it, the more sensitive it becomes)....It also does the same on my Toaureg, so this should work.

Maybe give it a try and see how it goes.

Even on maximum sensitivity setting is is still nowhere as sensitive as it was before the windscreen replacement. Used to be perfect on the minimum setting, unlike my D3 which used be waay to sensitive.

Hopefully they can fix it next week.

    Sensor unclipped from windscreen?

The rain sensor for the most part works well on my LR3. A couple of times a year, it sort of quits or becomes insensitive.

The reason is because the rectangle of plastic that contains the sensor bits has again unclipped itself from the glued on windscreen retainer clip.

As such, I pry apart the two plastic clamshell cover pieces that are located between the backside of the rear view mirror and the inside surface of the windscreen. I suggest you put a blanket or coat on the dash pad under the mirror as either one or both halves will suddenly pop off and fall down on to the dash pad. Nothing much will be hurt even if you do not put the blanket on the dash pad as the plastic covers are very light - but one might drop say the small flat blade screwdriver that I sometimes use to pry the halves apart. On occasion, I just use my finger nails as the halves unclip fairly easy.

Anyway, you should see the sensor rectangle hanging from some wires - just re-clip it to the windscreen clip and all should be fine again until next time.

I had the same issue. The rainsensor had to be replaced. It will be covered by your insurance.
