Thread: D4 door seals

    D4 door seals

Is it just me or are the door seals just plain rubbish.
I noticed that the drivers door seal had split a few months ago and the split was getting longer. At this is a new and very expensive car, I discissed this with my service adviser at our LR dealership. They replaced the seal but warned me that LR only do it (replace parts under warranty) once.
    Alarm bell!
Checked the new one, it was like paper on the vertical section running down the door. Same for the original passenger side seal.
I'm tall but drive quite close to the wheel and took notice of how I get in and out to see if I'm rubbing on the seal. I don't.
Now the new one has developed the same split/tear. 3 months max!!
I'll be talking to my dealer about this again but am wondering if this is a common problem?
    Regards
    Steve L.

    So it's not just me!

I have had the same problem on the drivers side outer door rubber. It had split approximatley half way up the door frame, roughly in line with my hips when seated. I also noticed that the felt type fabric that is attached to the seal was also showing signs like it had been abraided? I thought I had been brushing up against it either getting in or out or when seated. Just like you, when I checked how I got in and out I was not touching the door rubber and the door itself prevents you from getting near it when seated.

Unlike you my (very good) service agent got the thumbs down when asked could they replace it under warranty. $130.00 later I have a new seal and will now watch carefully.

Come to think of it I should run the flag up with LR Australia and ask for my money back!

LR are getting tight under warranty but they have no excuse for not replacing. Not fit for purpose if it fails that fast and a "reasonable expectation" under consumer law that it should last longer.
My D3 one failed too...........after five years.

I must have been lucky. I had the seal on the driver's door replaced twice under warranty on my D3.

Sounds like I will be forking out when the time comes to replace the seal on the D4. I wonder if you could buy a stronger grade of rubber seal and replace it yourself?

I have had mine changed three times so far and it has gone again, they are simply too soft a compound and total rubbish for a vehicle of this cost. They are still being changed over under warranty but at some stage they are going to get sick of it..

As long as the vehicle warranty is current, LR must change the defective seal. This applies even when the failure happens repeatedly. If taken to a small claims tribunal, LR would be hard pressed to argue that the seal is a "fair wear and tear" type of part.

I have a D3 that is nearly six years old and have not had this issue. I hope it doesn't happen on the D4 that I pick up on the 6th July. The nearest dealer is 1600 Km from me and it is a long way to travel just to have a seal changed.

    Cheers

Never had a problem with mine on both D3 and D4. In any case if u have had trouble should all be under warranty! Only annoying thing is that they can squeak.. Found a little talcum powder helped.

My RRS door seal has split like the others - when I got the car driving it sounded like there was a window cracked in the rear letting road noise in - got used to it now and the split has not got longer so I guess it will stay as is.

Like others have posted my 2010 D4 has the split. It is just for a short length next to the catch and it took me a while to even see it. I have never noticed it prior to this thread but once you know where to look you see it all the time.

2010 d4 and drivers door is fine. No split on the passenger side but i can feel a line near the catch where the rubber is wearing thin. Odd as the drivers door is obviously used a lot more than the passenger door. I expect a split in the within next 12 months. Better ge it fixed before the 3 year warranty runs out.
