    D4 System Warnings

I have had my MY12 D4 2.7 TD for 3 weeks. I have only driven it 4 times (all highway and suburbia) as I have a company vehicle and the Disco is the family car used only on the weekends for now.
Yesterday I went to take it for drive to the MCG. The car has 500km on the clock and yesterday when I started her up I had the dashboard flashing some interesting messages:
    a, Gearbox Fault
    b, EBA failure
    c, HDC Not available
    d, Stability Control not available

I decided to drive the car anyway as I wanted to understand the car a little more. The car was driving quite normally accept I was still at Access Level. I went to adjust to normal height and the message was 'car kept at Access level for optimised passenger safety' or something like that.
On the freeway, all was well. Car was smooth, however I could not engage Cruise Control. Once off the freeway, the ride was not the smooth groovy Disco I fell in love with. Let just say she was a little rough going over speed humps and coming to a stop was not as graceful.

I tried the old turn off - wait - and turn on routine (x2) but all to no avial.
I called the Roadside assistance line hoping they would help me reset but they told me it was best to call the dealer.

This morning I called the dealer, who was quite good about it all, but the process was to call roadside assistance for an assessment. If it was a battery fault, Roadside assistance could fix onsite, if not they would arrange a tow to the dealer.

My Mrs called me to tell me the Disco was on a tow truck to the dealership and they would call me with an assessment.

I wonder what explanations the dealer will have in store for me?...
Has anyone had or heard of a similar problem?

    Cheers

    Hey mate,

Way back when I first got the D4, the battery cells collapsed and I got a whole Xmas tree of lights as I was driving along. Scared the pooh out of me.

    Easy fix though.

Not sure if it's across the board but Austral, Brisbane no longer use the original wet cell batteries (so they informed me) cause they have had so many issues. The replacement battery only lasted a few months and was then replaced with the 'different' type. No issues since then.

    Cheers,

    Kev.

    Thanks Kev.
In this instance, the dealer came back to me with the diagnosis of a faulty brake pedal switch. Apparently, this dealer has seen about 5 or 6 of the same problem this year. Initial thoughts were battery related. Hopefully the issue is now put to bed.

    Cheers

I recently had a ground cable loom replaced on my D3 which had been showing most of the same faults semi regularly. The clue for the dealer was a crank angle sensor fault which to them was clearly a false alarm. I've had no faults since this cable was replaced with a upgraded version. Fingers cross this remains the case. I do think my problem is one they know about on Petrol D3's so not sure if it applies to the diesels or D4's.

    Thanks mate,

Yep I've read that the brake pedal switch can cause all sorts of problems too.

Like Ashes I had to have a ground cable replaced. I had this ongoing cracking noise (electric discharge) and the headlights would flicker. It was a rare occurance, so of course LR could never find it.

I had yet another starting problem and this time however the battery was OK...just undercharged. The cable had fortunately worked itself futher loose and they found the problem....it had arching marks all over where it bonded to the chasis and under the bolt head.

I'd had a turbo replaced and the two previous battery changes that I'd talked about, so all the action in that area obviously worked the cable loose...if it was ever tight in the first place.

Stupid stuff that just shouldn't happen and gives the marque a bad name.
