Hehe - I took it a different way: "you can't tow an 8 speed..." because they never break down and need a tow!![]()
Maybe it can't be towed if it breaks down, but can a 6-speed be towed anyway? I suspect not, but perhaps it can if very slowly and for a short distance.

Neither can be towed, they have to be flat bedded.![]()
Hi Everyone
I'm new to the forum, and new (well, soon to-be) owner of a Land Rover Discovery 4.
I can confirm the MY13 definitely has the 8-speed gearbox and tweaked 3.0L V6, I've ordered mine and apparently it should arrive in Feb / Mar next year.
There is a number of little tweaks to the car, as well as a number of minor cosmetic changes including the addition of more options to personalise the look and feel of your Discovery.
I obviously can't wait to take delivery and look forward to being a fellow Land Rover driver!
James
Welcome James.
Received an update from my dealer yesterday, ETA for delivery is now the 1st March 2013.
The enthusiasm for the 8 speed trannie isn't as strong over in the UK, where they've had them for a while. I've been following threads on Disco4.co.uk and some drivers aren't happy campers.
I'll be happy to just have a trouble-free run out of my 6-speed in the D4, just as I did with the D3.
Cheers
Russ
Mainly a dead spot ; nothing then zoom.
Sorted with software update, not so many complaints recently. Many think the dial is a gimick but makes it easier to rech the level control.![]()
Pretty sure the 8 speed comes with paddles on the steering wheel as well
Which seems cool but off road can get in the way according to some
