    Unlocking tailgate on a D4

    Hi all,

I feel abit stupid asking this question but I'm stumped.

I have a 2.7l D4 which I have set up so as I drive away the doors auto lock. When I stop and someone needs to get in I unlock the doors by pressing the unlock on the inside of the drivers door, ie pick up the kids roadside from school without turning off car.

Now I assumed this would unlock the tailgate as well but it does not. On a couple of occasions i needed to grab something out of the back when my wife drops me off but the only way I can open the tailgate is to turn off engine and use the key fob.

I've checked forum online and car manual but there is nothing there besides pressing the buttons to open the tailgate etc.

What have I missed here? Help.

    Cheers
    Mike

    Hi Mike,

I just hit unlock on the driver's door button. Just tested it for you to be sure.

I think it may be a settings thing...as in you can set the fob to unlock all doors on one push.

Have you set your fob up that way? Try hitting the door button twice, that may be an indicator.

I'm sure I had that issue at first but that was 2.5 years ago....and I'm old and can't remember....

    Cheers,

    Kev.

A little safety that I've noticed is that the car needs to be in Park for the tailgate to unlock with the door panel switches. See if that works for you.

Indeed, you've just hit the nail on the head...

    I remember this.

I'm certain u must be in Park ....Well I was before when I tested it!

What I find funny about the safety aspects of a D4...open a door, suspension will not move...tailgate and ramp...no issue....up and down till the compressor burns out!

What's with that? Loading convenience I'm sure but what's the rationale behind it. I'm assuming it's proximity of the doors to the ground.

    Anybody though about this?

    Cheers,

    Kev.

All I came up with was that if someone was opening the back, you won't back over them????

Needing to be in Park catches me out most of the time. I for one cant see what is wrong with neutral and park brake on.

It may be a security feature so that no-one can open it whilst stopped in traffic.

A thousand thankyous everyone. Opens when the box is in park. Kicking myself for not trying that earlier.
