I suppose it depends on how soon you want the car.

I would have loved to order a new car with ediff but ended up buying a stock car with out ediff.

Ended up getting an SDV6 for the price of a TDV6.

Also balance up which extras you will use the most.

Unlikely that there will be good deals on new 8 speed until May/June next year because of pent up demand.

Also will there be any teeting problems with the 8 speed - although this should be unlikely as they have had them in Europe for over a year.

The other dilema that may come into play if you wait for good pricing on a an 8 speed is the D5??

I was a bit miffed tht at the time I bought mine all the dealers were saying that the 8 speed would not be out in Aus until MY 2014.

The other thing is that I use the command shift constantly when off road so dont know how the rotary shift & paddles will compare to that.

I regularly use my steering wheel mounted remote control command-shift buttons and whilst they're not as prominent as the paddles, they get lost whenever the wheel is turned so often find myself using the stick instead. However the 8-speed might be less inclined to hang onto gears as long as the 6-speed and therefore perhaps less desire to use command-shift.

If you want to save some dollars buy the 2012.
I ordered my 2013 on friday, even fully optioned I only got $3,000 off the full price.
LRA are trying to shift the 2012 stock so they're more willing to make a deal.

I read a UK review that talked about the 8 speed box. It said that the vehicle hunts for the right gear a lot more with the 8 speed. I have 2012 RRS and I find the Diesel v6 with the 6 speed box very smooth and very powerful.

Best of luck. I am sure whatever way you go it will still be very good.

i think it depends on what you want to do with the car. For instant gratification the HSE will be much nicer. However looking at it another way, if I was purchasing a second hand D4 in say 5 or 10 years time then assuming the 8 speed gets good reviews then I would be far more likely to buy the base model with the 8 speed than the HSE with the 6 speed and worn out interior luxuries. Resale on the 8 speed I think will be much better.

Of course if money is not a consideration get the my13 hse.

Ultimately it is your choice.

Scott can I ask how the delar did he pricing on the 2013? ULR could only give me a ballpark figure on the SD 2013 as they told me LR have not released pricing. When I said to them that there are guys that have their orders placed they still denied they new any pricing.
The sales manager said he was contacting LR tomorrow to ascertain pricing, I am just interested how you were able to order yours and negotiate a price?

Thanks guys, all valid points.

I had pretty much set a budget of $95k max as that is what I am comfortable with.

The attraction for me is the options that are in the hse and he potential resale of a hse rather than a SE, but as you said trobbo the 8 speed may be more attractive.


Going to try to finalize the 2013 sd price then make the call, but basically comes down to options and a 2012 plate vs 8 speed transmission, half the options and 2013 plate.
