The 2.7L motor which you say "yuk" to - was the basis for the 3L motor - same block, one extra hair dryer and an extra 300 mL.
NVH levels in the Ford are appropriate for their price-point. It still accelerates better and gets better economy than a D4 3L or 2.7L.

Apologies for using that word... I had my "cranky pants" on this morning!
Yeah, from your refereence
AJ-V6D.27.... Applications... bottom of the list...2011 Ford territory
Or from car advice review
"Finally then, it’s here. A Ford Territory Diesel. Borrowed from Ford’s European operations, the diesel Territory is powered by a 2.7-litre TDCi V6 turbo-diesel engine (140kW and 440Nm). We’ve previously seen a twin-turbo version of this engine in Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles."
Or from Motor Report
"Designed and built by Ford UK, the 2.7 litre common-rail V6 turbo-diesel has been proven by the likes of Jaguar, Land Rover and Peugeot. The Territory, remarkably, is the first Ford product anywhere in the world with this engine under the bonnet."
I have to say that since the latest engine and gbox s/w was applied last week the light throttle driveability at all speeds has improved significantly allowing more of the engine's low rpm torque to be used. Lighter throttle upshifts occur at lower revs and it happily meaders along in on/off throttle situations keeping revs low, no longer seeming to be revving excessively. Overall fuel consumption in undulating country is now around 10.5 real where previously it was more like 11.5, even managing 10.7 for real 110 kph freeway crusing. I think LR have done a good update on the 3.0.
My understanding is the Ford/Jag/LR/Volvo 2.7l diesel motor is well close to 10 years old???? And had been planned to be phased out around 3 years ago with the demands around Euro 5 emissions etc. Obviously this is something the premium brands have driven to now 3 years later remove the 2.7 from their models, eg LR D4 2013.
It's dissapointing to see Ford yet again be presented the perfect opportunity to set the benckmark with a new territory. Yet after such a long delay of years for a diesel motor, last to market they introduce a engine that is being phased out and is ultimately old technology.
We have several TDCi terris at work and their fuel economy particuallry around town leaves alot to be be desired. combined again it's nothing special, which amazes me then on the fuel economy of the D4. Don't even get into the reliability of the usual Ford nuances,(powersteering, brakes, diff shunt, poor build quality etc).
It's a pity as the terriotry in principal is actually a bloody good car. Pity they do the minimum rather than the maximum, and they wonder why they are going broke in Aus.
Happy to be corrected if i am worng, purely my perspective and experience as a very ex regular ford buyer, and just my 2c on the 2.7 motor in a different format. It seems the final engineering of something that is the same, makes all the difference.
LR's are bagged for their reliability and fuel consumption, I know what I'd prefer to be driving...
