You have keyless entry, little black rubber buttons on your door handles, is an option to all models :-)

I think it is more about making sure the the key and car can find each other. Putting it in the centre console gives them the best chance to do so thus avoiding the "Smart key not found" message. Though, this does not always guarantee the communication between the two.

    Hi Guys,

Thanks for your comments. Pete no I dont have keyless entry probably did'nt clearly write out the process.
Have to unlock and lock the car with keys however when i open the car with the key I then put it back in my pocket and start the car.
Today I opened the car and put my keys in my jacket suit pocket which I forgot about and hung my jacket up on the hook in the back. Got in the front started the car and drove off, not until i got back to the office i realised my keys were in my jacket in the back!

Would be nick to have somwhere to store or a specific place to have the keys, for me an oversight by LR, too focused on the actual keyless part. Common sense still says to have a slot so the key is securley stored and potentailly the key can be charged whilst driving like they do on many other prestige cars. Concept good however a miss for me as i don't think it was fully thought through.

    Cheers

Most of the time my vehicle is not locked so with the key in my left pocket the vehicle is quickly started and I'm away.

Yes, making it standard is what I meant. As it is, when I'm not working, my car keys are the only keys I carry around (house is keypad and biometric).

Don't feel that we should be paying an extra $2100 for it (although with the current sale on, I may spring for it if I can renegotiate the price down).

If the system is fully keyless, like in the Lexus, then it doesn't make sense to have a slot for the key, as you don't need the key in hand to open or start the car. But the Lexus key has a simple system to start the car if the battery fails.

As for slots, some work better than others. Audi has/had a system where the whole key was fed into the slot; friends of our had fun when it would not release...
