On the open road, the D3 fuel consumption is very dependent on wind conditions - they're shaped like a brick after all!

Hi all, how now done over 20k in the D3 V6td, quite pleased overall. 110k on the clock
The fuel consumption is very variable, the computer can be anywhere from very low 10's which it was when we bought it, and it varied very little, for the first few months, did a very quick trip to the N.T. mainly dirt was very pleased with the fuel use considering the roads and times we put in. In 4000klms the actual fuel used worked out at 9.8ltrs/100 I thought excellent.
I do understand that the computer is only an indication, but this vehicle does the same trip roughly same time of day to town and back 110klms, and the indicated consumption can vary between 10.4 and up to 11.8, when it shows the high consumption I can be down at least 100klms to the tank full, any easy suggestions ?

Also the figure indicated is a lagging average, so if you have been doing a few days of heavy booted city driving the number will go up and then if you start highway driving, it will take a number of hours of driving for it to drop back down again.

Thanks for the replies.
I was looking for a known problem or something getting ready to play up - maybe !
I like to think that my driving around here is fairly constant, but every now and then when the computer says I am using a bit more than normal I find that I am down at the bowser as well.
Very conscious of winds etc. but appears to be more than that.
Guess we wait and see what happens nothing we hope.
