    Full length roof rack and gps?

    G'day guys I hope I'm not asking a similar question that already has been answered. (I did search)
    I've just got a new 2012 hse and was wondering how the gps would go with the full length rhino pioneer platform.
    I'm guessing the gps antenna lives in the black blanking plate near the back on the roof.
    Does anyone have a similar setup with gps and is able to comment or have a workaround for the gps.

    The easiest workaround is to just cut a hole in the rack...

    However, depending on the material of the rack base, the antenna might be able to get a signal through the base.

    The GPS satellite signal is very very weak so it would be best not to cover it with any metal obstructions.

    I am also looking at a roof platform for my D3 (and future D4) and have considered that any purchase has to be mounted slightly forward to give the little aerial its best chance.

    So that is what that cutout is for!

    As I have posted earlier, I work for Bajarack Australia. Baja Rack Australia - 4wd Roof Racks and baskets for 4WD Adventures - off road roof racks

    We do basket and expedition racks for D3 and D4, and they all have a semicircular cutout at the middle of the back.

    So if you are interested have a look at our website and you will see it is all done for you.

    In the EU the DAB shark fin antenna is fitted there.

    Hi,

    I have a 2012 HSE and travelled for a few weeks this year with a Rhino Rack tray that pretty much covered the rear part of the roof and the GPS worked no problems.

    Did the platform cover the antenna and get reception through (between) the alloy planks or was it short enough to not obstruct the antenna?

    I have a GPS in the upper cubby hole and never had a problem with getting or maintaining a signal. I think you will be fine.

    The Bajarack is somewhat heavy. It is almost 30kg which chews a long way into the dynamic load limit.

    Does anyone have a gps issue attributed to a roofrack or items carried on one?
