    Qld Tyre Sizes

Found this on the Cooper website thought it may be of interest to Qld members:

    New Tyre Laws

TYRE SIZE UP TO 2” BIGGER NOW ALLOWED IN QUEENSLAND

VSB14, also known as the NATIONAL CODE OF PRACTICE for light vehicle construction and modification, has been endorsed by state and territory vehicle registration authorities which now includes Department of Main Roads and Transport Queensland.

From November 1st 2012, the use of the National Code of Practice for Light Vehicle Construction and Modification (the NCOP) will commence in Queensland.

Please Note: Not all parts of the NCOP have been accepted for use in Queensland, with variations applied for certain sections under the Queensland Code of Practice.

For further information about these variations, please refer to the following: Vehicle standards instructions (Department of Transport and Main Roads)

    Cheers

I just fitted BFG KM2s 265/70/17 last week!

Very happy so far! And an extra 1" clearance should go nicely.

Speedo is affected so need to be careful but I use the GPS speed mostly.

What are those wheels...'very nice and easy to clean I bet. You won't regret the KM2s. They are a great tyre. I have the 245/70/17s as a second set. Done a couple of big trips with them, no chipping great grip and pretty good on the road.

PS: 245 tyre is approx 775mm diameter. 265 tyre is just over 800 mm diameter. So you are gaining approx 25 mm in diameter which is a 13 or so mm in ride height as it is the radius from the centre of the wheel that counts.

The rims are from an X5. I got a set of 4 off ebay for $100.

And you are right about the clearance -- my bad

Does this apply for NSW as well?

Pardon my ignorance, but if anyone knows has the national code of practise on tyre sizes been adopted by NSW as well as Qld?

    cheers,
