    Adaptive Cruise Control for D4?

Since the D4 has now gone to the 8 speed ZF for 2013 along with a few other upgrades, does anyone know if they will be offering the "Adaptive Cruise Control" as an option like it is on the RRS?

    Cheers
    Craig

I don't know what they will be doing here in Oz but I believe it is an option in Europe for the HSE spec D4. EDIT: Not its available even in Europe after all.

    I just bought this:
New Land Rover D4 Jaguar ACC ECU Adaptive Cruise Control Unit AH42-14B588-AA | eBay

and will be using this guide to install it:
DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - ACC (adaptive Cruise Control) Retrofit

Very useful for the amount of free way driving I do and for about $110 not a big deal if I can't make it work.
    Cheers,

    Sean

You'll still need the radar unit; that's the expensive bit.

Yes that's right, I'll collect the bits as they become available. Should have made that clearer in my earlier post.

Edit: I hadn't looked at BBS SPYs thread on this in over six months - he has only just come back today to say he has not yet been able to make it work. bugger. He's intending to have another go at it in the near future.

I have found the radar unit for 250GBP but it is the superseded unit - the current units are around 1800GBP. Might get it any way. then it's just the loom & misc items left to get.

    EDIT AGAIN:
Found the current radar unit for 295GBP:

I was certainly tempted to go the same way, as was disappointed adaptive cruise control wasn't even an option, but decided, for now, it was too much of a fiddle.

    Hi Sean,
I have just purchased the ecu and radar unit, in anticipation of Colin getting his sorted and all used units being sold overnight. (I hope i'm right on that one )

Reading his guide he talks about tapping into the high speed can bus, do you know how to identify this can bus and where to start looking for it?

In the next week I'll get hold of Nick TLO to see about getting the steering wheel buttons and the forward alert switch. Have you already done that?

    Regards Ken

    Hi Ken,

The write up that Colin did on disco3.co.uk is for the D3 so I think there will be some differences. When he attempted to do this I think he was missing the forward alert switch which, I would think, contribute to the issues he was having. I am hoping the D4 will be a bit more straight forward.

As for the CAB Bus, right now, I have no idea but understand that it is a twisted pair cable with all the ECUs connected in serial. I am quite keen to see if I can get a hold of the original wiring loom for the kit as Colin made his own.

The ECU part number I quoted above is for the D4 (11 bit CAN bus). If I recall rightly you have a D4 so the parts above are right for you.

After close comparisons between photos of RRS D4 steering wheels and their switch assemblies along with parts on Microcat, I've decided that the RRS cruise control switch assembly will fit the D4. So, I have ordered the RRS cruise control switch assembly from rimmer brothers as it has the distance control buttons included (I think this is the equivalent of the forward alert switch Colin spoke of ):

SWITCH ASSY - STEERING WHEEL at www.rimmerbros.co.uk @ 86 GBP

See photo of RRS steering wheel:
Range Rover Sport Photos & Video | Land Rover Australia

You can check out microcat here:
Landrover Parts Catalog (I got chrome to translate for me)

I have yet to start doing anything as I am waiting for the parts to arrive.

Good to see that there's another crazy bugger to keep me company on this one
    Cheers,

    Sean

Thanks for your reply Sean, I get the impression from what I've read though that the forward alert switch is yet another part number apart from the steering wheel switch, somewhere Colin says it is a 12 GBP part. The pdf schematic that Colin has drawn up shows 1.5 m wire going to the FA Switch and I don't think you would be running any wires directly to the steering wheel switch? I hope not at any rate.

I'll post a question on D3 site and see if we can get any further light shined on the subject, it's probably a bit early for any answers though with it being holidays and all.

The 2010 RRS wiring schematic shows the high speed canbus wires from the speed control ecu connector are directly from a solder joint connection. Hence unless the D4 has the connector fitted, which is unlikely as the option is N/A, the canbus connections will have to be spliced into the wiring. Note that there are length restrictions on distances between canbus nodes but if for example the bus was intercepted at the suspension ecu connector and the speed control ecu located nearby, there's unlikely to be any problem due to excessive bus length. I can provide the connector and pins for the bus at the suspension ecu. (front-most connector pin 16 is canH pin 19 is canL).

Edit: The ecm s/w version may be different when adaptive CC is fitted. I see from the BBS site that the s/w verison in my D4's ecm is also listed for the 2010+ RRS which is encouraging but there are many different s/w series for the D4 and RRS, not just the various updates for a particular series.

Thanks for the info Graeme, I was hoping either you or Gordon would chime in on this. I would be very appreciative of any info you could provide when the time comes to try this (I'm sure Ken would too!).
