Did you come up from Ton Groggan or from Corryong or come around from Mt Gibbo??
It's a great drive either way.

Well I didn't set out to do it but it just happened. A very serious trip solo. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1362311478.652099.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1362311520.534946.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1362311558.800953.jpg

Some great views up there,, it's been a while, I should go and have another gander at it
Nice to see a D3/4 perched up there.
Now you need to do it with snow and no centre diff lock.
Above 'graphs taken June 2011 long weekend - 4 days before seasonal track closures.

Was done in convoy of two vehicles, both of which were 'temporarily delayed' about 5kms from the summit - but fitting of chains sorted that out.
As we were aware of the conditions, we went up the track from Corryong (a nice steady climb and not as steep as other routes) but came down via Tom Groggen - the steepest route, without a problem except for a four foot diameter tree across the track.
Having been up Pinnibar about eight time now and in all conditions, I have no present plans on returning. But will be in the area from 16th to 24th March, 15th to 20th April and have another trip to Thredbo for the 2013 June long weekend - so who knows what will develop.
I think the best conditions I experienced on Pinnibar was one November when we sat down in beautiful sunshine looking across the valley to the snow capped Crackenback Range while sipping coffee and enjoying fresh baked trout caught from the Murray the evening before on fresh bread rolls. .......................... life doesn't get much better than that.

herrBlick,
Mt Pinnibar is great, I have been to the summit a number of time, mostly solo, and every time I get there I enjoy it.
Easter last year I did an overnight, out on Easter Monday, back Tuesday and enjoyed a couple of inches of snow. Still tracked up to Pinnibar, a little more slippery than usual but fun non the less.
The D3 makes it easy and the views and drive are sensational.
Attached is a photo from my most recent trip to the top around christmas time.

8 months and solo, good on ya, great to see young blokes out there enjoying Australia by 4WD, if you want a great place to camp in the area, check out Wheelers Creek Hut at wheelers Creek, Staceys Bridge Res at Nariel and Indi Res at Biggera, plenty of great tracks around the area to enjoy.
Here's part of the track coming up from Mt Gibbo
