can't help with your decision however when I ordered my D4 2 weeks ago the dealer had just sold a V8 after being on the books for 300 days. Not a great demand for V8 (in Sydney at least) so you may be able to get a deal?

Early D3 V8's sell quite well because of how cheap they are and how reliable they are proving to be, where as new D4 V8's are horrendously expensive compared to D4 diesel versions.

    The V8 engine in a D3 is a gem.

So the v8 d3 is the 4.4l jag motor right? How heavy on the fuel are the compared to the 4.0 Thor in a d2?

Thanks for the info - hopefully I'll have enough background to 'play' the dealers off against each other....been burnt too many times over the years to rush in

    Cheers F

While I have never owned a V8 D3 I have driven them and read plenty of reports by members on here about their fuel economy, especially with country driving and if correct it knocks the Thor V8 for a six on fuel economy.

Still that wouldn't be hard, 4.0L V8 Rover engines are hardly economical.
    Cheers,
    Terry

    Correct ;-)
The 4.4l in the L322 is a BMW variant as not to be confused with the engine in the D3.
The D4 engine is a beautiful purring 5.0l ahhh that sound !

You'll love it FB, good luck, I have an '05 D3 HSE V8, its an excellent vehicle !

For the record on fuel - my D3 V8 uses at best under 12 (highway cruising), under 14 (country roads, medium offroad), under 16 (harsh offroad, spirited country roads) and ... wait for it ... 24 (short stop start town trips & mucho bootful).

t is an awesome sounding motor - I recently got a go-pro and one of the first things I did was put it right in the middle of the bonnet and give it a bootful on a country road - flat stick to about 100 or so - favorite home video ever. Ok maybe second favorite ... hahah ... but it's a fantastic sound and may explain some of my fuel economy figures !
