Thread: Paint & Leather Protection

There are a couple of threads about these treatments on AULRO, seems to lighten your wallet but not much else.
The paint treatments often need an annual re-treatment.

At my Ford dealer they are usually sold by a short skirted blonde with a deep cleavage. I'm sure most of the blokes sign away a few grand thanks to this approach.

Most dealer treatments aren't worth the money. As said above, they are another revenue stream for them, selling a couple of hundred dollars worth of chemicals and time for a grand or more.

That being said reputable treatments (Ming) are good especially for paint colours that are likely to fade. They also don't cost as much if you get them done away from the dealer. You'd need to be expecting to keep the car for a long time to notice the difference.

My feelings are fairly similar.

Also keep in mind that if any accessories are added to your car order they may be attracting further luxury car tax as well. Another reason to add accessories after purchase if possible!

When I was purchasing my D4 I declined the offer to purchase any of the treatments offered. I mentioned what had been offered by the dealer and the 'special' price that they were prepered to give them to me for to a friend who owns a smash repair business. He said that they were a waste of money and that the best protection that you could give your vehicle was a good shed a coat of good quality polish once a year.

I was also offered window tinting, of cause a a special discount price, which I also declined. When I declined to take up the offer the sales girl was not at all happy and implied that I was a fool as the Discovery needed window tinting because it had such a hugh glass area. I had it done later at a fraction of the cost.

Where did you end up getting the tinting done coincidentally? I'm in Melbourne.

Tint a car in Pakenham did mine for about $450 from memory. Dealer wanted $850 and it was exatly the same tint including the name!

They also do the treatments on the paint and leather I think
