Alarm(ing)

Has anybody had trouble with their alarm. Over the last couple of months my 08 D3 has taken to sounding its horn and flashing the indicators for no apparent reason. It doesn't seem to matter where it is, car park, on the street or even in the garage.
So before I book it in to get the dealer to have a look, I thought I might ask on here. Let's face it I'll get far more sense from you good people on AULRO than i will from the dealer.

Cheers
Mike

Check your bonnet switch, can become full of dirt & debris & set off false triggers.
If you have a fault mate it will tell you which trigger it is also.

Had the bonnet switch issue on my D3.

Could be something else too. We have on most days my D4 and two D3's parked out the front of the office. For no reason we can determine every now and again the alarm in one of the D3's will go crazy and the other two cars go will then off in sympathy. Not always and the whole thing is random.

The non-LR drivers in the office get a big laugh out of this as we run around like lemmings trying to find car keys and sorting out who is the culprit.

Many issues on the UK disco sites and it is often the bonnet switch as others have said.

I will never forget the time the D2a alarm went off in a packed camp ground at Purnie bore,in the middle of the night.....
The language that came from many of the other tents about LR's that night was rather 'colourful'.

Agreed on the bonnet switch as possible culprit. I also had this on my D4.

By the way, does anyone know how one can lock the vehicle without arming the alarm? I have often wondered about this when I had the alarm issue and also thought about it camping shortly after I had it replaced.

OK looks like my 08 D3 has also taken to this habit as well.

When you guys say check the bonnet switch, where is this switch that you speak of? Is it debris in the bonnet latch or something else I should be looking to clear out.

Do LR mechanics/dealers have a solution?

Seems mine started playing silly buggars with random warning lights and the new alarm problem since the battery was exchanged at the last service. Is this a possible suspect?

Thanks for you help!!!!

I have the same problem with my d3. A while ago when alarm was on, I could see "bonnet open" type of message on the dash screen. This was fixed by LR dealer by installing a new sensor/switch to bonnet. However a year later problem came back, this time no message appears on the dash though. Ihave recently replaced the battery, but alarm still goes off when car is parked outside. Never happens in the garage. The car is booked for service on 4th - I will update the forum if Rova Range finds out why.

Under the slam panel of the RHS(Drivers) bonnet latch. It is easier to see the connector from the engine bay side.
The switch locks/clips upward & requires a small screwdriver to release it downwards.

Cheers.

p.s. the switch is relatively cheap & takes a couples of minutes to fit. DTC's should self clear.

HI Rocmic,
I had the same problem occurring regularily a few years back on the 06 D3. Faulty passenger side rear door lock the first time, 3 months later faulty drivers door lock. Had both replaced and the problem has never returned. Just in case it's not you're bonnet latch.

FWIW, I also had this - when the stereo developed a fault and would not shut down. The time I turned the car off was displayed on the screen - and didn't change. The moment I started the car- the time was updated on the screen.

The dealer merely tried to blame the iPhone I was using via bluetooth, and did a hard reset. Of course, they said no faults were logged so no updates required to the ICE. Hasn't happened since either.
