I was on a trip yesterday with a D4 with 19's and he had General Grabber 255/55/19 AT tyres. The car was pretty impressive to say the least, it easily went up a hill that stopped 2 lifted and locked Land Cruisers. I definately want one...if only they were 70k cheaper . Those tyres have an aggressive pattern for an AT but the lowish profile out bush is a concern for rim damage and sidewall pinching.
Hi firefox,
Personally I would recommend going for gordon's 18''. Even the 19" rims are susceptible to cracking. This is a picture of a 19" rim which suddenly deflated overnight after a trip down to the gold coast from brisbane. No offroading for the last 6 months since a trip to corner country in south west queensland. No sign of any damage to the rim or the tyre. go figure.

ouch! Yeah i have to admit i have started heading back the gordon path! I priced up the purchase of additional rims (as i need at least 2 more) and then trying to work out difference. Means the 18" do come back in as a possibility.
Though i would argue if that car is still under warranty andrewchr then wouldn't landrover cover it?
Hi firefox,
we had tyre and rim insurance as well so that took care of the rim. on our way from birdsville to innamincka we had a puncture with one of the coopers. the tyre fitter at innamincka wasnt a big fan of the coopers or the landrover rims especially the 19'' rims. He said they rarely stocked 19' tyres but had quite a few different tyres for 18" rims. Hope this helps.

How is your decision making process going? I'm about to change tyre combo on my D4 HSE to something a little more suitable for off road use, and am going through the same dilemma. I'll flick you a PM with some more detail if that's ok.
Ok - my tuppence worth - I have (had) two sets of 19" rims om my TDV8RRS - the originals that I took up the Gibb River Rd and side routes with (of all things) Yokohama Advans and had no punctures or other issues. However the rims got pretty scarred and 18mths later I purchased another set of 19" OEMS at $900 ea, with the idea that the originals would be repaired and fitted with road tyres and the new ones (pattern same as OEM spare) would be the off-road jobs. Put GG ATs on the rims - rubbish tyres IMHO but cheap. Due to an eastern suburbs indie who shall remain forever nameless., an adjusting rod locknut wasn't tightened up, fronts chewed out on a road trip (lucky that was all that happened) and I was up for a new set of tyres, which are Zeons. Great tyres, a bit baggy and allow understeer a bit but do the bizness. Took the original rims to get spruced up and lo - bloke says 3 fixable & one screwed - had a look and it had a considerable flat across both edges of the rim. To do this I would have had to hit something HARD which I would have remembered....so I need another original rim.
