Thread: D4 Error Fix

G'day,

Have been towing a caravan around Australia with a TDV6 D4 for 18months now. Have kids iPhones, fridge, DVD players etc attached.

Earlier on in the trip we got occasional errors and vehicle sometimes 'dead' when starting up. Eventually got a regular (I seem to remember) traction error or similar. It was so regular it allowed me to track down the problem.

Tracked it down directly to a crappy cheap iPhone charger, and another charger where the output wires were occasionally shorting. Both chargers were cheap and plugged into the 12v accessory cig lighters. These were either putting spikes or noise into the system or just dragging around the voltage levels somehow.

If you want to charge IPhone, suggest using the supplied cable, or through the USB plug, rather than through the 12v adapter. Avoid plugging cheap adapters into your vehicle. No problem with old 1985 engel fridge however.

Got rid of these and now have no problem. No errors. Ever since for about 8 months. (this will certainly change when I hit the post button).

Hope this helps someone. Perhaps put in the FAQ to remove accessories when trying to diagnose faults.
