From what you described it is most likely you over heated the compressor.
If you were playing with heights and adjusting things up and down sometimes the compressor overheats and cuts out to cool down causing a failure warning.
If this continues to happens regularly or you get messages saying it is raising slowly you could be up for a replacement compressor which is not cheap, unless fixed under warranty if the vehicle is new(ish).
Saying that there are threads on here about compressors and how to fix them/service them so do a search and if you are handy it appears to be a relatively easy fix.
Simply gassing it in mud on an angle should not cause any particular issues.
