With the recent ARB mega sale, I picked up the longranger tank for my D3.
I contact the manufacturer and source another fitting kit.

So I go and speak with ARB to arrange fitting of the tank today, where I was told that they will not fit the tank, which is contrary to what I was told on the day of the sale!

I contact Ritters and fell off my chair at their quote. $1k+

Any suggestions on someone in Melbourne who can fit a longranger auxiliary fuel tank?

Just had a Long Range Automotive tank fitted by Damien at Peninsula Rangie in Frankston. Good job. Haven't had the bill yet but won't be anyway near as expensive as Ritters. You'll have to be doubly sure you have all the parts>

I booked my truck into see Damian at Peninsular Rangie and he did wonderful job. Slight issue that the tank manufacturer saw fit to change the types of sender units they now use and it did not fit the tank without modification. Damian was sus on the sender flange/tank boss and recommended to not fill the tank until the tank is properly sealed.

Anyone got any ideas on how to seal the sender flange to the tank boss?

The tank manufacturer is happy to send a modified sender unit and gasket, but I dont want to risk the same issue.

Oh forgot to say..this is for diesel.

Got exactly the same issue on mine.
Leaks through the thread and drips at the rate of about 1 drop a second...

I'm going with Permatex 3J onto the threads and gasket and torque it back down.

Will let you know how I get on...

Is that he Long Ranger tank? Do you know how long ago this change was made? I had mine fitted mid to late last year, and I have recently been noticing a bit of a leak but only when the tanks are very full.

Was going to get it checked out in the next few weeks but would be good to know before hand if this is the problem.

Yes, mine is dripping 1 drop per minute or so. The tank boss was changed in 2010 to suit the new sender they are now sourcing from Ford. The previous sender was VDO. The mounting holes are 2mm closer into the centre of the unit, so a small modification is all thats needed.

I mentioned that maybe some additional sealant would be benificial, however was advised against it as manufacturer did not recommend it necessary.

I found some stuff online that should provide a seal, however I cant find it right now to add to this post. Some product used in aviation industry I think.

Once done, I will report back too.

Ok... So I phoned David at Long Ranger today about this issue.

We agreed that the sender can only be leaking past the gasket and then past the screw.

 Points to rectify:
 1. Check that the screws are not bottoming out before the gasket reaches correct tension.
If they are then a small washer under each screw.

 2. Gasket may be weeping. Application of sealant discussed.
I suggested to David who agreed that a smear of Permatex 3J aviation sealant would be the go.

 3. The screws are soft and hard to tension, I've sourced socket headed cap screws that will allow a bit more tension to be applied without stripping the heads.

 Hope this helps you out...
