    Thanks anyway Rich,

I might try and find a 2 stage bottle jack that suits- you mentioned that the clearance on these jacks is 260mm to 570mm which is more than enough, does anyone know that the actual minimum / maximum needs to be? I have found a few that come close but not sure where the shortfall will be. Obviously assuming that you put the vehicle into offroad mode and I've got the GOE rods so always an option to go a bit higher if the minimum height is not quite low enough.

    Cheers!

This is the one that I carry in the van, but it is too large and heavy to store in the car, but it certainly does the job.

Stripped thread on LR scissor jack today

Yesterday I was reading these threads about Jack alternatives for the D3. Today I had to change a wheel for the first time using the LR scissor jack.

It worked. Just. It got really hard at one point but I put an extra bit of oomph in and got the necessary height to change the wheel. However it just wouldn't. lower after that. Bent the extension rod and needed to get a wrench onto the spindle end just to turn it. Finally got it down and saw that the thread is now completely jiggered.

I need a new jack to carry in the car now. If the Merc Sprinter is not an option, if the Two stage bottle jack above is too bulky to carry in the car, if the great looking scissor jack from South Africa is not yet in production then what do forum members suggest I get? I need something.

Would I be best placed with a exhaust jack?. I am 98% urban driving and 2% off road. No sand or snow. But likely gravel and mud maybe the Vic Hich country in a few months. Don't like the feeling of having no jack.

I guess the Merc Sprinter jack is still an option if you are willing to go ahead and buy it yourself.

Edit: nope they don't ship to Australia

What do we think about this:

4 Ton Telescopic High Lift Bottle Jack with 345mm Stroke

I also like what this company does from a safety perspective:

Safe Jack Bottle Jack Recovery Kit With Bottle Jack
    Cheers,

    Something I am missing ?
My 4 tonne bottle jack fits under when car on bumpstops and raise way over height even with big wheels, never fully extended it because it gets to a dangerous height.
I bought this big mother because of the weight when fully loaded and in case I wanted to lift one end of the car out bush.
It is not too heavy to put under the rear with one hand and I have steel plates and pins in my wrists and arthritis in the shoulders so Im no strong arm.
It has been transported over 100k kms laying on its side and does not leak.
It was a cheapy from an Auto shop cheaper than these here for a "group buy".
Anybody still using the jack that came with the car is risking damage to you and or the car. Its a piece of...............

Looking at the links above and doing some more searching myself it seems that most are bigger & or heavier than the eBay one. I'm still keen to get one of these.

    Now some more good news:
A DISCO3.CO.UK member Andy has offered to be a transfer agent for us!
He has been given the approx numbers and will get some quotes for us.
See what comes out of this.

This is an old thread but still relevant. I still have the same jack and attachment....work fine with the D4 but not used in anger yet. Checked the jack last weekend and after 5 years of lying down there's no leaks.

NSW Fairtrading Warning on 4X4.com.au see

Public Warning: Do not deal with George Sekuloski - NSW Fair Trading

I was going to buy an exhaust jack as advertised in "Caravan and Motorhome" mag by this mob but a google check on who is RV4X4.com.au found the fairtrading warning.
