Realistically, you can get by without any mods, unless you are into serious off roading. Apart from the obvious running costs and insurance, I think the other biggie is the servicing. While it is under warranty, IMO shortcutting on the scheduled servicing is not an option. After that it is your call, but I would try to keep it up if at all possible. The penalty for slack maintenance can be very expensive with modern vehicles, not just LR,s. I don't believe it is any better or worse in cost than other modern vehicles for servicing, and none of them are cheap these days. I seem to be up for $500 - 600 for general servicing, and around the $1100.00 for the occassional big one.( and I don't let the dealer hit me for things I can change myself like wiper blades and brake components like pads & rotors.

Welcome! This is the right place indeed.

Here are some figures (all inclusive of GST) you might find helpful, others may be able to get better than this, as they say "Your Mileage May Vary!":

NSW Registration: $470/yr
CTP (Green Slip): $550/yr
Full Comprehensive Insurance $1,400/yr
Roadside Assistance (after new car roadside has run out) $150
Servicing & Maintenance: $1500/yr (I don't do a lot of km's (12,000km/yr?), so usually have one service at <$500, and the 2nd year at around $1500)

Fuel: 99% City usage, short trips of <20km. I get around 6-7km/litre.
Tyres - originals may last 40,000kms, then you can get some more serious stuff for around $400/tyre.

If you purchase the car new and show a business card from a large corporate you may qualify for the corporate servicing plan, which is free servicing for 2 years (I think?).

You may also want to budget an Allianz or Land Rover extended warranty which will cover you another 3 years/100,000kms. I don't know what the going rate is at the moment, but perhaps around $2,500-$3,000. This is fully transferrable to the next owner, so can be a good selling point if you don't want to keep the car.

One thing you should factor in is fuel. The car is so awesome you want to drive it everywhere. My normal total kms per month is up about 33%.

You do realise you're under servicing the vehicle doing 1 a year...

12k or 6 months.... There's a good reason for that low km use vehicles often have higher acid levels etc in the oil doing damage.

Insurance - I pay $900 p.a

Km - I do 25,000+ a year so 2 services.
On corporate plan (if you can get it) so haven't paid for a service yet.

Been quoted reasonable price for dealer based service anyhow (and I drive to Vic for servicing when possible, it's a Sniegy thing - great service) and will continue to do so.

They aren't expensive to run if maintained properly. Then, nothing that's maintained ever is!

Actually I didn't know, so thanks for that! I budget more than that, so I might as well use it, and Graeme Cooper's servicing prices are good, especially for the minor services, so I'll get it done more frequently. Thanks again!

My old man has a sweet and under utilised D3 MY08 which now has 27,000km on it and has had 12 services and 8 oil changes from new!
