    Stop Light Switch and Cruise Control

    Did you ever think the Stop Light Switch and the Cruise Control would be linked? Well me neither and now I reckon they are.

    Recently the lights came on for brakes and service and then the vehicle would drop to access height. The application of the foot brake was the cause every time.

    Off to get it fixed and the switch had failed. So this is perhaps the most expensive switch on the market so we all enjoyed a laugh as the coins drained from my account.

    Now back up a couple of years and the Cruise Control started to have odd issues. At times of applying the foot brake, adjusting the speed via the switches or kicking down while going up a hill would switch the Cruise Control off and it was Off until I stopped and restarted the car.

    So no real source or pattern and the frequency of the issue increased through time and became more annoying until recently when the brake switch was replaced and now all is well in Cruise Control world.

    Now the switch is replaced I have tried to make it fail and it seems to be fixed.

    Perhaps you knew this but if you didn't there you have it.

    Hi Peter
    the brake light switch has to be connected to the cruise control hance when touching the brakes it cancels the cruise control. I would recommend carrying a spare switch as it can cause a myriad of problems as it starts to fail and they are not that expensive.

    Brake switches on these can lead to all types of weird dramas like no start, intermittent start, no brake lights, erratic brake light operation, Abs lights etc.

    I think I may have a similar problem with cruise control. If you don't mind me asking, how much was the switch?

    Oh well... I paid a bit more cause I went to a repair shop and these guys need to feed their kids.

    Then again I had no idea what the problem was and with the added impact of multiple dash lights and suspension dropping I felt sure it would be on the hoist for a day or so.

    Sounds like the same part fits the D3 and D4 and for about $25 I would have a cheap spare. Will be on the list for any major excursions.

    The other thing that causes a number of issues is left foot braking,or resting your left foot on the brake pedal.....

    Bad habit i know, but i know someone who had heaps of issues with a D4,once his driving style changed,no more issues.
