    It pays to shop around

Got my renewal for my insurance on the D4 this month it was for $1,291 about $40 dearer than last year, not that bad but as I always do these days I thought I'd check around.

Went to a couple of those comparison sites and entered my details and got a number of quotes starting at $865 all the way to $5,679.

I chose the second one on the list for $871 because it was an insurance company that I have had before, in fact it was the same insurance company that sent me the renewal for $1,291.

    The phone call was interesting,
"Hi, I've decided to not go ahead with the renewal as I have found a much more competitive quote"
"really sir, what price have you been quoted we may be able to match it"
    "I have been quoted $871"
"that is a significant difference are you sure that they offer a similar product? can I ask who gave you that quote?"
"sure it was was you" prolonged silence
"do you have a quote number?"
"sure here it is" even longer silence
"Sir, I'm happy to inform you that we will match that quote"

    Saved $420 in 10 mins.

Had exactly the same issue with Youi. They seem to rely on apathy - once you're in you have to badger them to get a half decent renewal.

I am 30 and have never had any vehicle comprehensively insured, ever. So when inquiring around for prices nothing shocks me.

    $871 is a bargain!

Youi wanted over 2 grand from me, and I drive on weekends only.

I tried both iSelect and compare the market

Compare the market had more responses

One question to ask when getting insurance is , is it covered off road ?
Some don't cover once you leave the roads.
Mine covers me every where except if I'm some where illegally. Just got mine in the post but its $779.30 so looking at the amounts on here I'm feeling a bit better.

    Thanks for the thread.

My CTP (NSW Greenslip) insurance is due and a check has shown that my current insurer is asking $267 (or 50%) more than the insurance comparison check has come up with. I think a phone call will be in order tomorrow.

Ring the insurance company each year and have it reduced. Yup they rely on you just paying what they ask.
Just make sure you are covered fro off road if you do go off road.

Hey Connok, who are you with? That's a great price if they cover off road... Hopefully getting a d4 in the next couple off weeks, I want to find a balance of cheap/good!
