Sorry if it appeared inconclusive! Actually I had loud knocking, clunking at offroad height and the front lower control arm ball joints were clearly worn. I don't recall how much sound at onroad height at that time but it was not as bad. Once replaced it was heaps better but I still had a minor occasional knocking at onroad height which was subsequently fixed by tightening the bolts on the newly installed lower control arms.
