I had that warning after a wheel alignment once. The carputer was sensing something wrong in the front end.
Sports mode? No drama, it will just cost you more money in fuel.
I was on my way to AB transmissions this morning when I got to 100kms I went into cruise control and all was good,( this was the first time on the freeway since remapping)
Then out of the blue "special program's off " flashed up and the car started to slow , I had to go across all the lanes to get to the hard shoulder, freighting !
Turned the car off and on again ... No problems and off I went.... This happened again four times.
I searched the forum for answers and found a topic with similar symptoms , the advice was...... Wait for it '!!!!!!!
Remove the rest of your keys from the car key as it pulls on the ignition,
So I did to no avail,
Called Ritter's and drove their to have them have a look. On the way my fuel light came on and I filled her up,
There was a running rich error on the reader ,and the mechanic couldn't replicate the fault
I then drove to AB transmissions everything was cool,
Until I got onto the freeway and gave it some. Yes! The same thing happened again. So I called Ritter's and they said come back and we shall put the you old program back in and see if its the remapping causing it...
Ok I thought very nice service...
So I continued up the freeway and decided to give it some again.
It was amazing the car drove like a dream at naughty speeds , I couldn't believe it. All was good , I decided instead to go home and keep an eye on it over the weekend and see
I informed Ritter's of my decision ,
When I arrived home and went to reverse my car I shockingly realised my gear stick had been in sports mode with out me shifting it,
Can you just drive your car in sports mode and just not touch it?
Has anyone else had the cutting out problem?

The other thing worth checking is your brake lights and the brake switch. Brake switch is a $20 part thanks to it being a ford part. Just a blown bulb can cause this sort of issue though.

I think that since I got remapped that my engine us getting a little to much fuel. I will keep an eye on it over the weekend and treat accordingly,
Remapping on mine via a plug in tool which is a fault reader and holds original and improved mapping. No issues like yours. Sounds like a VWat least you drive it off the road unlike the poor VW lady who got killed by stopping in front of a truck
I have occasional left mine in sports mode or gear select mostly after having too much fun going slow.

						Hey mate,
What is your concern about Sports Mode? Did you just flick the lever across or did you actually change gear manually?
I'll try and cut off concerns at the pass...Bearing in mind I have a D4, but I assume it's the same.
The car is pretty good at looking after itself.
- If the shifter lever had just been selected to the left, there will be no issue, it automatically down selects and then changes gears normally (albeit at higher revs and down-selects more aggressively when you are slowing down) but I don't think the gear box will go into 6th. However, you'd have to be doing some very naughty speeds for that to be an issue....and the Red Line would be a give away.
- If you had actually changed gears manually then forgot about the shifter position after that, I believe it should still change gear by itself but at much, much higher revs (like an emergency [don't break the engine] change). Still should be OK.
Hope this helps,
Cheers,
Kev.

Haven't had a remap to my D3 yet but about 15mths ago had similar issues to you regarding idiot lights on the dash flashing and vehicle slowing down to a crawl.
Short story is that both batteries were faulty (had them tested by battery specialist). Replaced main battery & then auxiliary later & everything has been fine since.
Cheers
Steve
The gearbox does go into 6th when in Sport mode - just takes a while. The car needs to be in a steady cruise situation for a little while - in the order of 20-30 secs but varies.
But you are correct - Sport is really no different to being in normal Auto - change points just change.

My D3 spends far more time in sports mode than it does in drive, up and down the Kuranda Range it saves half the gear changes.
When towing is always in sports, rarely gets into 6th, if in drive it is always trying to go up then dropping straight back again, usually on the straights lock it into 5th then does not go up or down of every undulation.

That's good news,
So what's the diagnosis ?
Why is my car stalling in normal gear shift if I floor it ?
Why is my car fine when in sports mode?
