Thread: 19 inch disco rim saga

I have a 2007 Disco 3 HSE with 19 inch rims.
I have just come back from 15,000 km up Northie Tassie to barkly tableland and then directly west to Gibb and home Tanami/ Mt dare Odnadata.
I posted a few threads before i left looking for 19 inch rims as Landrover Australia does not stock them!! ie they will source from UK.
I did not receive many replies?
I did find Ozzie wheels online and got 2 Avant Garde black (light weight) alloys, and asked Bob jane to check they fitted, which the stud pattern does but as i found in the the middle of the Tanami the original wheel nuts were too big!!!
So having cracked an original rim on the Gibb river rd, I had a slow leak around the valve stem and no original or aftermarket spare! I did have "inawise" tyre pressure monitors fitted so I managed the leak in real time with frequent top ups.

Thanks to Terry Sutton at Sutton Motors Alice Springs he found two used original rims at Triumph Rover Spares Landrover Parts Service centre in Adelaide and had us on the way in 2 business days.

ps there will be another thread re burnt out alternator on this trip and fault lights.

Beware of aftermarket Chinese wheels, its reasonably common for people who take their street cars to track days to buy a second set of aftermarket rims and tyres for track use.

It is not uncommon for these cheap Chinese copy rims to fail and cause crashes. It is rear that a OEM rim fails ever.

How these cheap copies made for 4x4's would handle serious pounding on remote rough roads and tracks would be anyone's guess.
