For a part that costs about 56 pounds it's definitely worth replacing. Very reasonably priced for the peace of mind you get. If I had a <2010 I'd be replacing it.

Having to lock the flywheel/crank up is a bit of a PITA because you have to remove the starter (which is a little tricky) but that aside very manageable, a day job tops. Just need a big (read: BIG) breaker and a good torque wrench.

I had this done in May by a reputable independent LR/Jag specialist.
Including 150K service, timing belts and oil pump housing/idler all up was $2970.
Parts are $1275 with 8 hours labour attributed to the timing belt/oil pump replacement.

Howard have you asked Southern Cross in Toowoomba for a quote?? I have found them to be fairly reasonable in the past.
    cheers,

bobk I will be getting a quote from Southern Cross as I also have had good service from them, but that was while the vehicle was covered by warranty.

I have received a price from Ricks 4 wheel drive centre who used to service my D1 and I am waiting for a price from MR auto, once I have those I will have a better idea of which way to go.
